Track & Field Set For NCAA East Preliminaries

Jacksonville, Fla – The Towson University track & field team will be represented by four athletes in the NCAA East Preliminary Round, hosted at the University of North Florida from May 24-27.
 
The four Tigers competing in this meet are part of 53 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) student-athletes who have qualified as individuals this year. 
 
Event Information
Facility: Hodges Stadium | Jacksonville, Fla.
Event Times: The women's events take place on Thursday (May 25) and Saturday (May 27). On Thursday the hammer throw begins at 10:00 a.m. and the 200m dash is estimated to start at 8:45 p.m. The discus (1:00 p.m.), triple jump (6:00 p.m.), and 200m dash quarterfinals (7:50 p.m.) take place on Saturday.

Last We Saw Them
Cuervo saw a third-place finish in the 200m at Outdoor Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships (May 5-6) after clocking a 23.96. The sophomore went on to win the event the following weekend at Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Championships, breaking the program and Panama National record with a time of 23.29. Cuervo also won female Most Outstanding Player of the meet.
 
Fatimah Owens picked up a gold medal at ECACs in the discus with a PR toss of 50.72m, posting the second highest mark in Towson history.
 
Georgia Coleman won bronze at CAA's in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.17m. The graduate student saw improvement the following weekend at ECAC's, claiming the event title with a new PR of 59.81m.
 
Freshman Manie Mevo won the triple jump at back-to-back conference meets, posting PRs both times. Mevo was the triple jump champion at CAAs with a distance of 12.35m. The Maryland native went on to win the event at ECACs, where she posted a new school record mark of 12.84m.
 
Up Next
The top 12 finishers in each event at this meet will advance to the NCAA Championship, hosted by the University of Texas June 7-10 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
