TOWSON, Md. – Towson University pitcher
Shayne Clowar has agreed to terms with the West Virginia Black Bears of the MLB Draft League.
The right-hander made his debut for the Black Bears Saturday night, allowing two earned runs on one hit in one relief inning while striking out two of three batters faced.
The league operates a split-season format of 80 games. For the first 30 games of the season, the league functions as a collegiate summer baseball league to serve as a showcase for top draft-eligible prospects leading up to each summer's MLB draft. Following a break for the draft, play resumes for the remaining 50 games with paid players who have exhausted their amateur eligibility.
Clowar finished the 2023 collegiate season 0-6 with a 11.16 ERA, 18 strikeouts and 10 walks over 25.0 innings pitched. The graduate student made seven starts over 14 appearances after missing the last three seasons at Towson due to varying injuries.
