FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Towson University men's golf team is set to open it's 2023 fall campaign at the Doc Gimmler Tournament from Sept. 9-10 at St. John's University. The event takes place at the infamous Bethpage State Park, known for being the site of the U.S. Open Championship (2002 & 2009) and the PGA Championship (2019).
The Tigers are quite familiar with this tournament as it will be their sixth consecutive season returning to Bethpage State Park to play at the Red Course.
At last years event the team saw a fourth-place finish after shooting 831 (-9). Harvard took the tournament title with a combined score of 807 (-33).

Tee Times and Format
This event is a three-round tournament with two rounds being played on Saturday and the remaining one on Sunday. Tee time begins at 7:30 a.m. both days. The first Towson golfer tees off at 7:50 a.m. on Saturday. Sunday tee times will depend on Saturday's scores.
The Field
Other participating schools include Columbia, Fairfield, FDU, Georgetown, Harvard, Hofstra, Iona, Lafayette, Lehigh, LIU, Loyola Maryland, Niagara, Rider and St. John's.
Roster
The Tiger's roster has a total of nine athletes, three returners and six newcomers.
Among the returners are
Brad Riley,
Poonyapat Nantsupawat and
Jai Sheth.
Riley returns for his fifth year with the Tigers. Last season he played in all 11 tournaments, averaging 74.09 per round. He was Towson's top finisher at two tournaments and saw four top-20 finishes including a fifth-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational. Riley found success at last year's Doc Gimmler, shooting a season low 68 during the second round.
Nantsupawat and Sheth are both rising sophomores this season. Nantsupawat played in seven tournaments for his first season, averaging a score of 75.15 per round. He had a solid Doc Gimmler performance as well, finishing 2-under par after shooting a season low 66 for the first round. Sheth saw action in four tournaments, averaging 79.33. He competed as an individual at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship, shooting a season low 69 during the second round.

Last Season Recap
The Black & Gold saw six top-5 team finishes throughout the 2022-23 season, including a second-place finish at the Hartford Hawk Invitational where the team achieved its lowest score of the season during the second round, shooting 278 (-10). Four Tigers placed in the top-25 individually.
Towson placed third overall at the Southern Invitational after shooting a collective 3-over. The Tigers earned their second lowest score of the 2022-23 season during the final round where they shot 5-under, 283. Only seven strokes separated the Black & Gold from the first-place spot.
The team wrapped up the season with a seventh-place finish at the Coastal Athletic Association championships after rounds of 285-293-294.
Upcoming Schedule
Following this tournament the Black & Gold will have three additional events, all to take place throughout October.
The team heads to Hampden, Massachusetts for the UCONN Invitational from October 1-3 hosted on the Great Horse course.
The following weekend The Tigers compete in the Bucknell Fall Invitational from October 8-10.
Fall season wraps up for Towson with the Lehigh University Invitational on October 20 and 21 at the Saucon Valley Country Club Grace Course.
