TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's lacrosse team continues its games against in-state competition, hosting Mount St. Mary's for the home opener on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
This is part of a Saturday doubleheader, with the Towson women's lacrosse team playing Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m. To purchase season tickets or if you have any questions regarding tickets, visit

Each team fell in its season opener against a Maryland-based foe. Towson, from the Coastal Athletic Association, fell at #13/5 Johns Hopkins on Tuesday to start at 0-1. Mount St. Mary's, from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, opened the year in Annapolis on Feb. 3, falling at Navy 19-6.
In a series which began in 1970, Towson and Mount St. Mary's, separated by 50 miles, have played every season since 2011. Towson leads the all-time series 17-2, winning the last three including a 20-7 win in Emmitsburg in last year's season opener on Feb. 11. The Mount's last victory in the series came on Feb. 15, 2020, an 11-10 win in Towson.
Towson will play its first three games, and five of its first six contests, against Maryland-based opponents. All five games against local foes will be in the Greater Baltimore area.
BARSZ - CAA PRESEASON DEF. PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Colby Barsz was selected as the CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches. He is the first Tiger to earn this honor since Koby Smith in 2021.
A two-time First Team All-CAA honoree, Barsz was tied for the team lead in caused turnovers last season with 18, adding 22 ground balls.
FOUR TIGERS EARN PRESEASON ALL-CAA
Four Tigers earned 2024 Preseason All-CAA recognition in the preseason coaches poll:
Colby Barsz,
Matt Constantinides, Nick DeMaio and
Josh Webber.
Constantinides, a two-time All-CAA Second Team player, was the lone faceoff specialist on the 2024 Preseason All-CAA Team, winning 56.1% of faceoffs and scooping 116 ground balls.
DeMaio earned 2023 All-CAA Second Team last season as Towson's scoring leader off 29 goals and 21 assists.
Webber picked up 2023 All-CAA Second Team as a starter in the first midfield, tallying 12 goals, 12 assists, 19 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
In addition,
Mikey Weisshaar was Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention. Weisshaar picked up 17 goals, eight assists and 15 ground balls last season.
TOWSON PREDICTED TO FINISH THIRD IN CAA
Towson has been predicted to finish third in the CAA preseason coaches poll. Towson received 37 points overall, coming off a tie for second place in the conference last year after notching five league victories.

PROGRAM APPROACHING 500TH VICTORY
Towson, which established varsity men's lacrosse in 1959, is just two wins away from 500 as a program. Since the establishment under coach Billy Hooper in 1959, Towson has a program record of 498-380.
The Tigers are 348-274 since beginning DI play in 1980. Last season,
Shawn Nadelen earned his 100th victory as Towson head coach, holding a 102-83 career record.
BATTLING IN THE HOME STATE
Towson will be taking on five of the six other Division I men's lacrosse programs in the opening six games of the season with all games occurring in the Greater Baltimore area.
The Tigers play at Johns Hopkins (2/6), vs. Mount St. Mary's (2/10), vs. Navy (2/17), at Loyola (2/27) and vs. UMBC (3/2).
CONSTANTINIDES ENTERS TOP-10 IN TOWSON HISTORY IN FACEOFFS
Towson's primary faceoff man his first two years,
Matt Constantinides stands sixth in program history with 360 faceoff wins. This includes 207 wins in 2023.
Constantinides needs 15 faceoff wins to tie for fifth in program history with Mark Goers, who had 375 wins from 1993-95. Towson's all-time leader in faceoff wins is Alex Woodall, who had 583 from 2017-19.
He is also 11 ground balls from being in the top-10 in Towson history, currently standing 203. Rosensweig had 214 from 2006-09.

Despite the departure of leading goal scorer
Kyle Berkeley, Towson returns its next six top goal scorers from last season to bolster the offensive ranks.
Nick DeMaio led the team in assists and points with 29 goals and 21 assists for 50 points. The next two goal scorers, each freshmen last season, were
Joaquin Villagomez (27) and
Mikey Weisshaar (17), followed by
Josh Webber (12) and
Chop Gallagher (8).
HONORING THE 1974 NATIONAL TITLE TEAM
2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Towson State College national championship team in the College Division.
Captained by Jeff Clarke, Tom Moore and Wendell Thomas, the Tigers went 14-1 in 1974, defeating Hobart 18-17 in overtime in the Division II national title game. Carl Runk earned DII Coach of the Year while Jim Darcangelo notched College Division Player of the Year while Wendell Thomas earned College Division Defenseman of the Year.
Towson will be honoring the 1974 national title team during the April 20 game vs. Monmouth.

Mount St. Mary's is under the leadership of Chris Ryan, in his first season after 23 seasons as head coach at Mercyhurst.
Graduate student attack Cormac Giblin leads the offense, having netted two goals in the opener off 12 shots. Freshman Brody Atkinson scored a goal and an assist in his collegiate debut.
Sophomore Owen Peters started his first career game in goal at Navy, having 10 saves and 18 goals allowed in 56:06. He is protected by 2024 MAAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year Mitchell Dunham, who had two caused turnovers and a ground ball in game one.
At the faceoff-X is senior Ethan Holobinko, his first year as the primary faceoff man, winning nine of 23 against Navy.
