HAMPTON, Va. – The Towson University men's and women's swimming & diving teams completed day three of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championships Friday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia.
The UNCW women lead the standings with 940.5 points. Delaware (842.5 points) and William & Mary (742.5 points) round out the top three. Northeastern sits in front of the Towson with 703.5 points and the Tigers finished the third day with 647 points. Drexel (417 points), Campbell (363 points), Stony Brook (219 points) and Monmouth (193 points) complete the standings.
UNCW's men are atop of the leaderboard after the third day with 620.5 points. Delaware is ahead of Towson with 513.5 points and the Tigers hold third with 381 points. Drexel (343.5 points), William & Mary (273.5 points) and Monmouth (148) round out the pack.
Finals Day Three Highlights:
- Samantha Casolo took second place in the B final of the 100 fly (55.22). Riley Willett took seventh in the B final with a time of 55.66.
- Brian Benzing, the defending champion in the 100 fly, took bronze with a time of 46.10 (NCAA B cut). Benjamin Eischeid finished fifth with a time of 47.63. Evan Bota took sixth in the B final with a time of 48.87.
- Maddie Frick won the gold medal in the 400 IM with a time of 4:19.63. Dylan Gustaff took eighth in the same heat (4:24.52). Britney Denny (4:25.77) and Laura Gaffney (4:30.72) finished fifth and eighth in the B final respectively.
- Kirill Pankov took sixth in the A final of the 400 IM with a time of 3:53.08. David Walton took second in the B final, hitting the wall at 3:55.20. Theo Dietrich placed sixth in the same final (4:01.38).
- Addie Scott took the bronze medal in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.21, the freshman's second medal of the weekend. Victoria Dichak (1:52.72) and Bridget Thomas (1:53.09) finished fourth and fifth in the C final respectively.
- Luke Schwar took sixth place in the A final of the 200 free (1:38.09). Stephen McDonald finished sixth in the B final with a time of 1:39.32.
- Tiffany Matulis took sixth place in the A final of the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.89. Shay Walker took eighth in the B final (1:04.74). Tink Tompkins (1:04.91) and Riley Willett (1:05.17) finished third and fourth in the C final respectively.
- Brian Benzing won his fourth-consecutive 100 breaststroke CAA championship with a time of 51.30, hitting an NCAA A cut in the event to secure his spot in Indianapolis. Julian Maycock finished seventh in the B final (56.07).
- Ally Frame won the 100 backstroke for a second-straight year with a time of 53.11, marking an NCAA B cut in the event. Janine Murphy finished fifth in the heat (55.27). Claire Ryland took fifth in the C final (57.46).
- Reed Sells (48.71, 3rd), Evan Bota (49.22, 6th), and Sean Colson (49.25, 7th) each placed in the B final of the 100 back.
- Aidan Clark finished eighth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 214.15. Grady Gardner was the top finisher in the B final with a score of 250.45.
- Ryland, Murphy, Walker and Marissa Kleckner took seventh in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:32.83.
- The 200-free relay of Schwar, Benjamin Eischeid, TJ Bearor and Daniel McLaughlin took fifth place with a time of 1:19.80.
On Deck:
The CAA Championships conclude tomorrow with preliminary swim heats beginning at 10:00 a.m. Preliminary dives are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the evening's finals session is slated for 6:00 p.m.
