TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University track & field team opened its outdoor season at home, hosting the Tiger Season Opener on March 16. The Tigers captured six first place finishes, one school record and several PRs to begin the second half of the 2023-24 season.
Kira Parsons started off the meet for Towson on a high note, winning the javelin with a mark of 37.81m.
The 4x100 relay (
Sydney Tucker,
Cristal Cuervo,
Ty'Liyah Hannah,
Maya Tucker) picked up the Black & Gold's second first place finish of the day, crossing the finish line in a school record time of 45.25. The previous record was set last outdoor season by the same four athletes.
Omokemi Balogun was the top performer in the triple jump, winning the event with a leap of 11.55m.
Baara Stewart and
Lexi Mogensen were the top finishers for the Tigers in the 1500m, both clocking new PRs. Stewart placed second overall after dropping 10 seconds from her previous best time, running a 4:47.68. Mogensen finished right behind Stewart in third with a 4:48.17.
Leeann Redlo finished second overall in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.12 closely followed by
Morgan Lane with a 15.15.
Marisa D'Angelo earned her first collegiate win in the pole vault with a mark of 3.40m.
Cristal Cuervo won the 100m dash with a PR of 11.69, which ranks third all-time in program history. Additonally
Princess Asante (12.38) and
Rebekah Aladekobah (12.83) competed in the event, both clocking new PRs.
Maya Tucker was Towson's top finisher in the 400m, placing second overall after running a 57.80.
Ty'Liyah Hannah (58.73),
Sydney Tucker (59.43) and
Kelis Milburn (59.74) posted times under 1:00 as well, all picking up new PRs.
Taylor Totevski (2:26.61) and
Satori Valentine (2:27.26) were the top two finishers for the Tigers in the 800m, placing sixth and seventh respectively.
Aubrey Schaffer ran a 18:18.89 in the 5000m, only four seconds off of her PR.
