Towson Men’s Golf Improves By 16 Strokes In Between Rounds To Complete Day One Of Golden Horseshoe In Ninth

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After two rounds of play, the Towson University men's golf team wrapped up day one of the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in ninth place, scoring a 600 (+32) after shooting 308 and 292.
 
The Black & Gold's 16 stroke improvement between rounds was due to four Tigers (not including individual players) shooting their best scores of the day during the final 18.
 
Princeton currently sits in first with a score of 577 (+9), with two athletes ranked in the top-10. Justin Larue of Longwood is day one's top individual player, finishing the first day of competition 7-under par after shooting 68 and 67. 
 
The average scores for the first and second rounds of the tournament were 76.92 and 75.47, respectively. 
 
Brad Riley led the Tigers' day one efforts, tying for 24th after rounds of 75 and 73. The 5th year had a strong back nine during his second round, offsetting one bogey with a birdie and parring the remaining seven holes. He tallied an additional four birdies throughout the two rounds.
 
Ariihau Faana had consistent rounds of 75 and 74 to finish 7-over par. He recorded seven birdies total, two of which were back-to-back during the first round. Fanna is tied for the second-best par 5 scoring average with a 4.33 (-4). He currently sits tied for 28th
 
Joshua Galindo had a slow start, shooting 80 for his first round before bouncing back for the final 18 of the day. The freshman shaved nine strokes off of his round one score, shooting an even par 71 which was the Tigers best score out of both rounds. Galindo had a solid front nine, parring eight of the nine holes. During the back nine he offset two bogeys with three birdies.
 
Michael Matheson had rounds of 78 and 74. His final 18 included 11 pars and two birdies.
 
Jai Sheth (individual) shot 80 and 77, recording one birdie during each round on hole No. 2. Poon Nantsupawat rounded out the squad, carding 84 and 85.
 
The Tigers wrap up the tournament with the final round of 18 beginning tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
