WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University men's golf team moved up one more spot on the final day of the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, wrapping up its second tournament of the spring season in eighth place. The Tigers finished with a final score of 897 (+45) after shooting 308, 292 and 297.
The Black & Gold tallied a combined 14 birdies for the third and final round with all six players earning at least one. Four Tigers shot in the low 70s to help the team remain under 300 for its third round.
Princeton remained atop the 12-team field, finishing in first place with a final score of 857 (+5), with five athletes ranked in the top-30. George Mason took second (862 (+10)) while Longwood rounded out the podium in third place (870 (+18)). Justin Larue of Longwood held onto his lead to become the individual champion, finishing the competition 10-under par after shooting 68, 67 and 68.
The average scores for all three rounds of the tournament were 76.92, 75.47 and 75.17, respectively.
Brad Riley was the top finisher for the Tigers at the conclusion of the tournament, tying for 26
th after carding 74 for his final round. Riley recorded four birdies for the final day, two during each nine.
Ariihau Faana wrapped up his first tournament of the spring season tied for 30
th. The freshman matched his second-round score, shooting 74. He found most success on hole No. 6 throughout the two-day event as he birdied that hole all three rounds. Faana had the most pars on the team for the final 18, earning 12 total.
Josh Galindo and Mike Matheson tied for 38
th after shooting 75 and 74 respectively for their third rounds. Combined the freshmen earned four birdies, two apiece.
Jai Sheth (individual) shot his best score of the tournament and Towson's lowest of the round, carding a 73. The sophomore earned an eagle on No. 6, which was a par 5, 485-yard hole. He added an additional three birdies throughout the final 18.
Poon Nantsupawat rounded out the squad, shooting his lowest score of the tournament of 81 for the last round.
