Towson Men’s Golf Moves Up Five Spots In Between Rounds To Place Sixth At Rutherford Intercollegiate

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Towson University men's golf team wrapped up the first day of the Rutherford Intercollegiate in sixth place after rounds of 303, 299 and 284 for a final score of 886 (+34). The Tigers' 15 stroke improvement for the final day was aided by all five players shooting 74 or lower for their last rounds.
 
Towson recorded the fourth highest amount of birdies out of all 14 teams, totaling 156.
 
Host school Penn State claimed the tournament title with a final score of 858 (+6) after rounds of 293, 287 and 278. Caleb VanArragon of Valpariso was the individual champion, finishing 3-under par after rounds of 74-70-66. 
 
Sky Aung was Towson's top performer, completing the tournament tied for 18th. For the first day Aung had consistent rounds of 76 and 76. During the final day he shaved off seven strokes, firing a 69. The freshman had a strong back nine, parring every hole. He added three birdies during the front nine, to offset a bogey. The score marks his second time this season carding a 69.

Michael Matheson led the Tigers' day one efforts after shooting 77 and 73. During his first round the freshman earned an eagle and a birdie on the front nine. Matheson was one of 15 players to earn an eagle during the tournament. The freshman started off strong during his second 18 of the day, tallying three birdies throughout his first nine holes to put him at an even par. He wrapped up the tournament carding 74 for the final day

Brad Riley started off slow, shooting an 83 for the first round before bouncing back with an even par 71 for his following round. On the last day, Riley matched his second round score of 71. He earned back-to-back birdies during his first nine holes and parred the remaining seven holes to put him at 2-under par for the front nine.
  
Joshua Galindo had rounds of 74 and 81 for his first day. He posted his best score of the tournament for the final round, scoring a 72. He tallied four birdies total for his third round.
 
Ariihau Faana had rounds of 76, and 79 and 72. The freshman recorded nine birdies throughout 54 holes, carding back-to-back ones during the first and last round.
