BEAUFORT, SC – The Towson University men's golf team completed the first day of play at the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship, shooting 305 (+17).
Reigning champion UNCW currently leads the field after shooting 272 (+16). Elon and College of Charleston round out the podium in second and third place.Three players, two from UNCW and one from College of Charleston, are atop the individual leaderboard after carding scores of 66 (-6) for the first 18 holes of play.
The round one average score was 73.53.
Freshman
Sky Aung shot Towson's lowest score for the first round, recording a 74 (+2). He parred eight of his first nine holes which left him at 1-over par going into the back nine. He notched two birdies, aiding him to wrap up play 2-over par.
Michael Matheson finished his first CAA Championship round with a score of 75 (+3). He tallied four birdies total, two during each nine.
Ariihau Faana shot 76 (+4), notching six birdies and six pars.
Brad Riley and
Joshua Galindo earned scores of 80 (+8) and 84 (+12), respectively. During hole No.8, Riley fired an eagle.
The second round of the tournament begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
