LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Towson University men's golf team completed day one of the Dragon Match Play Invitational in sixth place after rounds of 294 and 295, wrapping up 21-over par. The Tigers had the lowest par 3 average, leading the seven-team field with 3.08 (+3).
Brad Riley led the Tigers throughout 36 holes of play, carding an even-par 71 for both rounds. During the first 18, Riley notched three birdies to offset three bogeys and parred the remaining 12 holes. He birdied three more holes during the second round, one of which was on the on the same hole he birdied during the first round.
Sky Aung shot 1-over par 72 for his first round, recording two birdies during the back nine. During the front nine he parred eight holes. For his final 18 of the day, the freshman shot 73, adding two more birdies again during the back nine. Aung tied for the third lowest par 3 average, totaling a score of 2.88 (-1) for eight par 3 holes.
Jai Sheth carded a 74 for his first 18 holes, leaving him at 3-over par. The sophomore tallied three birdies. For his second round he recorded a 75, shooting back-to-back birdies during the back nine.
Matthew Gonnello had rounds of 77 and 80 while
Michael Matheson shot 78 and 76.
The Tigers will continue play Tuesday morning, each competing in a round of match play against athletes from Lafayette.
