TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team is hosting its seventh annual First Pitch Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 1 in the University Union Ballroom. Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. with the evening's program scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The First Pitch Dinner serves as the primary annual fundraiser for the Towson Baseball Program and features several sponsorship opportunities, raffles and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event help support facility upgrades, the team's travel budget and various other enhancements crucial to the Tigers' continued success.
Headlining the event as the keynote speaker is former Major League Baseball (MLB) manager, Grady Little. After beginning his managerial career as a player-coach of the West Haven Yankees, the Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees, Little quickly rose the ranks of the minor league system. He managed four league champion teams in the minors and was named Baseball America and the Sporting News Minor League Manager of the Year in 1992 at the helm of the Greenville Braves after leading the team to a 100-43 record.
Little got his first MLB managerial job with the Boston Red Sox in 2003 after stints as a bullpen and bench coach at the MLB level with San Diego, Cleveland and Boston. He led the Red Sox to the American League Championship Series in 2003 and amassed a 188-132 record in two seasons.
Little followed that with two seasons as the minor league catching instructor for the Chicago Cubs before returning to an MLB managerial role with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006. Little led the Dodgers to the postseason in 2006 and put together a 170-154 record across two seasons with the team.
