STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Towson University track & field team started the season strong at the Youree Spence Garcia Invite on Saturday, securing five freshman-led victories and posting thirteen additions to the program's all-time list.
"Overall, it's a strong start to our indoor season," said head coach Consandria Walker-Hall. "Our newcomers have stepped up and show great promise, and we're excited to keep building. We're just getting started."
Field Events
Sierra Swangin placed first overall in the high jump in her collegiate debut with a 1.70m mark, tying for third all-time in program history. Freshman Addison Inge also picked up a medal in the event, tying for second place with a 1.62m jump.
Brunell Owusu also struck gold in her collegiate debut, taking first in the pole vault with a 3.51m clearance to move into sixth all-time.
Senior Leeann Redlo placed third in the long jump with a 5.87m mark, ranking second all-time. Aniyah Toppin followed in fourth at 5.64m, placing her fifth in program history, while Kiara Murray added a top-10 finish, taking tenth with a 5.32m jump.
In shot put, Aleah Schwartz earned a tenth-place finish with an 11.44m toss.
Brandi Gochenauer secured another top-10 placement for the Tigers, finishing tenth in the weight throw at 11.58m.
Track Events
Leeann Redlo secured a silver medal in the 60m hurdles after clocking 8.67, improving on her previous all-time mark to rank fifth in the event in program history.
Freshman Nesther Wea added another gold for the Tigers in the 60m, clocking 7.57 to rank sixth all-time. Nancy Hudson (7th, 7.72), Princess Asante (9th, 7.74) and Kadidja Ouattara (10th, 7.80) also secured top-ten finishes.
In the 3000m, four Tigers finished inside the top ten: Rebekka Hillier (3rd, 10:34.35), Anna Amato (4th, 10:34.96), Skylar Pizzulli (7th, 10:44.34) and Mari Collick (8th, 10:47.17).
Spencer Settle placed third overall in the 500m with a time of 1:17.57, a mark that ranks ninth all-time. Freshman Jaayah Jenkins followed in sixth, running 1:18.10.
Freshman Mydison Britton captured another win for the Black & Gold in the 300m, posting 39.39 to rank fourth all-time. Kadidja Ouattara finished fourth overall in 39.78, placing her fifth on the all-time list. Bianca Durant (40.53) and senior Christal Pommells (40.57) also moved into the record book, ranking eighth and ninth all-time, respectively.
Baara Stewart took silver in the 1000m with a time of 2:56.25. Addison Mau (8th, 3:07.05) and Trinity Bumbry (9th, 3:08.33) also earned top-ten placements.
The Tigers swept the podium in the 200m as Nesther Wea (1st, 24.24), Jaylynn Dorsey (2nd, 24.97) and Qiora Rollins (3rd, 24.98) led the way. Wea's time ranks sixth all-time. Jasmine Scott added a ninth-place finish in 25.83.
In the 4x400m, the relay team of Qiora Rollins, Christal Pommells, Baara Stewart and Deschanique Douglas placed third in 3:49.97, ranking eighth overall on Towson's all-time list.
