Top Two CAA Teams Collide as Towson Men’s Lacrosse Hosts No. 15 Fairfield

TOWSON, Md. – The top two teams in the CAA standings meet up at Unitas as the Towson University men's lacrosse team takes on No. 15 Fairfield on Saturday, April 19 at noon.
 
Tickets for the game are available here: https://fevo-enterprise.com/group/25TUMLAXsinglegames.  The first 100 fans will receive food by Banditos.
 
The game will be broadcast online on LacrosseTV and FloCollege.  The game will also be broadcast via audio on towsontigers.com with Spiro Morekas and Glenn Smith on the call.
 
Towson has won six consecutive games, coming off a 25-3 victory vs. Hampton on Saturday, to be in first place in the CAA at 5-0 and 7-5 overall.  Fairfield has won its last two contests, the last a 13-10 win at Delaware, to stand in second place in the CAA at 4-1 and 11-1 overall.
 
Both teams have been mentioned in the national rankings.  Towson is receiving votes in each the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll while Fairfield stands at #15 in both polls.
 
Towson at Fairfield have played at least once every year since 2015.  Towson leads the all-time series 9-1 and has won the last six games, including a 12-10 victory at Fairfield on March 23, 2024.  Fairfield's lone win came on Apr. 22, 2017, a 9-8 victory at home.
 
If the Tigers win this game, Towson will be the host of the 2025 CAA Tournament from May 1-3.
 
WEISSHAAR - 2025 TEWAARATON TROPHY NOMINEE
On April 17, Mikey Weisshaar was selected as one of 25 players across the country as a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee.  He is the first Towson player to be a nominee since Zach Goodrich and Alex Woodall in 2019.
 
In late March, Weisshaar was selected as an Inside Lacrosse Media Midseason Second Team All-American, his second straight year receiving that honor.  He also stands in the top-10 in Towson history in career goals with 93.
 
WEISSHAAR - USA LACROSSE PRESEASON MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR
Mikey Weisshaar was honored as the USA Lacrosse Preseason Midfielder of the Year.  He adds this honor along with being named a Preseason First Team All-American by each USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse.
 
The junior midfielder was Towson's leading goal-scorer last year with 42, adding 19 assists.  He earned at least a hat trick in eight games in 2024.
 
16 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 16 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes a 7-0 undefeated run in 2024.
 
PLAYING TOP TEAMS
Towson played a very tough non-conference schedule, having played two teams currently ranked in the top-20 in (chronological order), Syracuse (8/7) and Saint Joseph's (14/14) plus several teams receiving votes in Johns Hopkins, Navy, UMBC and Virginia. Future CAA opponent Fairfield is currently ranked at #15 in each poll.

In the preseason coaches poll, Towson has been predicted to finish first in the CAA in 2025.  Towson received six first-place votes for 48 points, followed by Delaware with two first-place votes and 44 points.

OVERTIME - TOWSON TIME
Towson has been strong this season in golden goal games, being 3-0 in overtime games this year.  Coming into 2025, the Tigers had lost their last four overtime games dating back the previous three seasons.

WEISSHAAR - USA LACROSSE MEN'S DI PLAYER OF THE WEEK
A six-goal performance in Towson's victory vs. Delaware earned Mikey Weisshaar USA Lacrosse Men's DI Player of the Week on Mar. 18.
 
His sixth goal was the game-winner in overtime vs. the Blue Hens.  He also earned USILA DI Team of the Week and CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
 
ROLLIN' ROLLIN' RONAN
Ronan Fitzpatrick, who played just one game last season, stands as Towson's second-leading goal-scorer in the season with 29, adding seven assists.
 
He is already a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week, including after scoring six goals, including the game-tying goal with 29 seconds left in regulation, in the victory vs. Delaware.
 
MATT CONSTANTINIDES - TOWSON ALL-TIME FACEOFF WINS LEADER
Towson's primary faceoff man all four years with Towson, senior Matt Constantinides is the program's all-time faceoff wins leader with 663 faceoff wins.  This includes two seasons with at least 200 faceoff victories: 207 in 2023 and 205 in 2024.
 
Constantinides surpassed Alex Woodall, who had 583 wins from 2017-19, with his 11th faceoff win at Navy on Feb. 16, 2025.
 
He is also second in Towson history in ground balls, currently standing with 343.  Woodall is the Towson all-time leader in ground balls with 351.
 
CARL RUNK (1936-2024)
Legendary Towson men's lacrosse head coach Carl Runk passed away on Nov. 24, 2024 at the age of 88. 
 
The leader of Towson men's lacrosse for 31 years from 1962-1992, he led the Tigers to 262 victories, the 1974 NCAA Division II National Championship and the 1991 Division I national title game. 
 
He is a member of several Halls of Fame: the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame (2007), the University of Arizona Men's Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2019), the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2018 and the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame (2022).

CHANGING THE STARTERS
In the first 12 games of the season, Towson has had eight different starting lineups, including five different players starting at attack and six starting on the first midfield line. 
 
By contrast, Towson had the same starting lineup in 14 of its 16 games in 2024.

Of the 53-man Towson roster, 20 players reside in the home state of Maryland.  This includes five players from Baltimore County: James Azbill (Catonsville), Matt Burnam (Nottingham), Ben Ellis (Towson), Ray Glass (Perry Hall), and Owen Scott (Sparks).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
Fairfield's 11 wins this year is one shy of the single year program record of 12 victories set in 2012.
 
Junior attack Jake Gilbert is one of three Fairfield players with at least 22 goals this year, having 27 goals and six assists.  Sophomore attack Keegan Lynch serves as the quarterback, tallying up 16 goals and 24 assists.
 
In goal, junior Owen Hirsch has the best goals allowed average in the CAA at 8.55, adding a 54.6% save rate.  Ranking third in DI in caused turnovers per game, sophomore Julian Radossich has tallied up 34 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls in 12 starts on close defense.
 
Fairfield has had four players on the faceoff-X this season.  Sophomore Daniel Davis is the primary player there, winning 56.3% with 37 ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen has been selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen will prepare the U.S. U20 Team for the upcoming 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea.
 
He was part of the U.S. Senior National Team which won the gold medal in the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships in England with a 12-10 victory over Canada in the title game.
 
Nadelen becomes the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.
 
TV TIME
Four Towson home games will be on Monumental Sports Network this season.  The home of the Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards, Monumental Sports Network is based out of Bethesda and is aired across the DMV, spanning from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina.
