Towson Men’s Lacrosse Returns to the North to Play Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson University men's lacrosse team continues its northern travels in CAA play, taking on Monmouth in New Jersey on Saturday, April 5 at 12 p.m.
 
The game will be broadcast online on FloCollege, with Mark Harmon on the call.  The game will also be broadcast via audio on towsontigers.com with Spiro Morekas on the call.
 
Towson is riding a three-game winning streak, taking down Drexel 12-8 in Philadelphia on Saturday to improve to 4-5 overall and 3-0 in CAA play.  Monmouth snapped a three-game losing streak with a 24-4 victory at Hampton on Saturday to stand 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the CAA.
 
Towson and Monmouth started its all-time series when the Hawks joined the CAA in 2023.  Towson has won each game in the series, a 17-2 win at home on April 20, 2024 and a 15-11 victory in West Long Branch on April 22, 2023.
 
Following Saturday's game, Towson will play its next three contests at home.
 
WEISSHAAR - USA LACROSSE PRESEASON MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR
Mikey Weisshaar was honored as the USA Lacrosse Preseason Midfielder of the Year.  He adds this honor along with being named a Preseason First Team All-American by each USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse.
 
The junior midfielder was Towson's leading goal-scorer last year with 42, adding 19 assists.  He earned at least a hat trick in eight games in 2024.
 
In late March, Weisshaar was selected as an Inside Lacrosse Media Midseason Second Team All-American, his second straight year receiving that honor.
 
14 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 14 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes a 7-0 undefeated run in 2024.
 
PLAYING TOP TEAMS
Towson played a very tough non-conference schedule, having played three teams currently ranked in the top-20 in (chronological order) Johns Hopkins (17-USILA, 17-IL Media), Syracuse (8/8) and Saint Joseph's (19/20). Future CAA opponent Fairfield is currently ranked at No. 20 and No. 19 respectively while previous/future opponents Virginia and Hofstra are each receiving votes.

TOWSON PREDICTED TO FINISH FIRST IN CAA IN 2025
In the preseason coaches poll, Towson has been predicted to finish first in the CAA in 2025.  Towson received six first-place votes for 48 points, followed by Delaware with two first-place votes and 44 points.

SEVEN TIGERS EARN PRESEASON ALL-CAA
Nominated and voted on by the league head coaches, the 2025 Preseason All-CAA teams and honorable mentions included seven Tigers, the most for any league team.
 
In addition, Mikey Weisshaar was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.

WEISSHAAR - USA LACROSSE MEN'S DI PLAYER OF THE WEEK
A six-goal performance in Towson's victory vs. Delaware earned Mikey Weisshaar USA Lacrosse Men's DI Player of the Week on Mar. 18.
 
His sixth goal was the game-winner in overtime vs. the Blue Hens.  He also earned USILA DI Team of the Week and CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
 
ROLLIN' ROLLIN' RONAN
Ronan Fitzpatrick, who played just one game last season, stands as Towson's second-leading goal-scorer in the season with 24, adding four assists.
 
He is already a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week, including after scoring six goals, including the game-tying goal with 29 seconds left in regulation, in the victory vs. Delaware.
 
MATT CONSTANTINIDES - TOWSON ALL-TIME FACEOFF WINS LEADER
Towson's primary faceoff man all four years with Towson, senior Matt Constantinides is the program's all-time faceoff wins leader with 623 faceoff wins.  This includes two seasons with at least 200 faceoff victories: 207 in 2023 and 205 in 2024.
 
Constantinides surpassed Alex Woodall, who had 583 wins from 2017-19, with his 11th faceoff win at Navy on Feb. 16, 2025.
 
He is also second in Towson history in ground balls, currently standing with 325.  Woodall is the Towson all-time leader in ground balls with 351.
 
CARL RUNK (1936-2024)
Legendary Towson men's lacrosse head coach Carl Runk passed away on Nov. 24, 2024 at the age of 88. 
 
The leader of Towson men's lacrosse for 31 years from 1962-1992, he led the Tigers to 262 victories, the 1974 NCAA Division II National Championship and the 1991 Division I national title game. 
 
He is a member of several Halls of Fame: the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame (2007), the University of Arizona Men's Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2019), the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2018 and the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame (2022).

CHANGING THE STARTERS
In the first nine games of the season, Towson has had seven different starting lineups, including five different players starting at attack and six starting on first midfield. 
 
By contrast, Towson had the same starting lineup in 14 of its 16 games in 2024.

Of the 53-man Towson roster, 20 players reside in the home state of Maryland.  This includes five players from Baltimore County: James Azbill (Catonsville), Matt Burnam (Nottingham), Ben Ellis (Towson), Ray Glass (Perry Hall), and Owen Scott (Sparks).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
Brian Fisher, in his 12th season, was the first-ever head coach of Monmouth when hired in 2012 for the inaugural season in 2014.
 
Monmouth's starting attack line contains the team's top three goal-scorers, led by junior Ty Caffarelli with 21 goals.  Sophomore Brendan Dundas has tallied 15 goals and 11 assists while junior midfielder Ryan O'Rourke stands with three goals and 12 assists.
 
In his second year starting in goal, graduate student Tommy Heller has a 52% save rate and a 10.42 goals allowed average.  Senior Gabe Bowen-Slott is the team's leader in caaused turnovers with 13, adding 15 ground balls.
 
Senior Ethan Cronk has taken a majority of the faceoffs for Monmouth, winning 48% with 25 ground balls.  Freshman Landon Parker backs him up at 47.1% and 13 ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen has been selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen will prepare the U.S. U20 Team for the upcoming 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea.
 
He was part of the U.S. Senior National Team which won the gold medal in the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships in England with a 12-10 victory over Canada in the title game.
 
Nadelen becomes the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.
 
TV TIME
Four Towson home games will be on Monumental Sports Network this season.  The home of the Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards, Monumental Sports Network is based out of Bethesda and is aired across the DMV, spanning from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina.
