ALBANY, N.Y. – With the college lacrosse season concluded, the professional lacrosse season is about to begin. Towson University alumni are ready for the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) opening weekend starting tonight (May 30) in Albany, New York.
Two former Tigers, Ryan Drenner '17 and Zach Goodrich '19, are returning to compete with the Boston Cannons while two others are protected roster members;
Colby Barsz '24 is there for the defending PLL champion Utah Archers while Koby Smith '22 returns for the New York Atlas.
Drenner, going into his ninth professional season, is a five-time All-Star, including each of the last four years. Entering his fifth year with the Cannons, last season he finished with 15 points and seven ground balls in 10 games from the midfield.
Goodrich enters his seventh professional year, all with the Cannons. A three-time All-Star, he plays SSDM for Boston, having six ground balls and five caused turnovers in 10 games last season.
Barsz, the 24
th overall pick last season, is back for year two in the PLL. He played twice for the Archers last season, tallying up a caused turnover and five ground balls as a rookie at close defense. As part of last year's PLL champion, Barsz received his championship ring this week.
Smith, the fifth overall pick in 2022, returns for year four with the Atlas. The LSM finished 2024 with five caused turnovers, 13 ground balls and six points, including a pair of two-point goals, in 10 games.
The PLL begins tonight at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on the campus of the University at Albany. The Atlas debut in the league opener tonight at 6 p.m. The Archers play tomorrow, May 31 at 1 p.m., followed by the Cannons playing tomorrow at 7 p.m. against the Atlas.
