No. 17 Towson Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Navy for Home Opener

TOWSON, Md. – The No. 17 Towson University men's lacrosse team is set for another in-state opponent for the 2026 home opener, taking on Navy on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. as part of a lacrosse doubleheader.
 
Tickets for the game are available here: https://www.gofevo.com/group/tumlax26.  This is the annual Hometown Heroes Game, with the first 200 fans in attendance receiving a free camo bucket hat.
 
The game will be broadcast live on Monumental Sports Network (check local listings) and online on FloCollege.  Spiro Morekas and Glenn Smith will have the call live from Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
 
Towson, from the Coastal Athletic Association, fell in its season opener on Tuesday at #16/15 Johns Hopkins 13-11 to be at 0-1.  Patriot League member Navy defeated Iona 17-7 at home on Feb. 6 to start 1-0 on the year.
 
After Week 1, Towson stands at #17 in each the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.  Navy is receiving votes in the coaches poll.
 
Towson and Navy are playing for the third straight year after reviving the rivalry in 2024.  Navy won last year (Feb. 16) 14-10 in Annapolis, with Towson winning 17-5 on Feb. 17, 2024 at home.  Navy leads the all-time series 9-7.
 
This is a lacrosse doubleheader at Towson on Saturday.  The Towson women's lacrosse team plays vs. Georgetown at 3:30 p.m. at Tiger Field; admittance is free for that game.
 
TOWSON - BACK-TO-BACK CAA CHAMPIONS
Towson enters 2026 as the two-time reigning CAA champion, including two undefeated regular seasons and wins in the CAA Tournament, leading to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
Towson has won 10 CAA championships, all coming since 2003.  Its back-to-back titles are the first for Towson since winning three straight from 2015-17. 
 
Towson's 10 conference tournament titles, since the establishment of men's lacrosse as a sport in the CAA, are the most in the league.  Second is Delaware, which won five before leaving the league in 2025.
 
18 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 18 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes 7-0 undefeated CAA regular season records in each 2024 and 2025.  It is the longest consecutive conference win streak in program history and the longest currently in Division I.

TOWSON - NATIONALLY RANKED
Towson enters the season ranked No. 15 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.  Towson has finished the past two seasons ranked nationally in the top-15.
 
Towson is the only preseason ranked CAA team in the top-20.  The Tigers are set to play three teams ranked in the top-20 during non-conference play: North Carolina, Johns Hopkins and Virginia.
 
WEISSHAAR - INSIDE LACROSSE, USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Mikey Weisshaar was selected as a 2026 Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American Second Team, the second straight year the publications have honored him as a preseason All-American.
 
The reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year was the league leader in goals and points per game, earning 48 goals and 24 assists for 72 points, averaging 4.5 points per game.  Starting 16 games at attack, he also tallied 40 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.

WEISSHAAR APPROACHING TOWSON RECORDS
Mikey Weisshaar is in position to place himself high in the Towson record books with his offensive performance.  He currently stands fifth in Towson history with 107 goals and tenth with 162 points.  With 162 points in 47 career games played, he is averaging 3.45 points per game.
 
He currently stands with two of the top-eight single season records in goals in Towson history plus his 72 points in 2025 was seventh in Towson single season history.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
Navy is predicted to finish third in the Patriot League in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
 
Sophomore attack Alec Gregorek was the leading scorer in the team's first game, scoring four goals and causing two turnovers, while four-year starting senior Mac Haley had two goals and an assist.  Preseason All-Patriot midfielder Jack Ponzio started his sophomore year with one assist vs. Iona.
 
Starting his third year in goal, senior Dan Daly saved three shots of seven attempts on goal in the first 41:48 vs. Iona.  Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year junior AJ Marsh caused 15 turnovers and scooped 25 ground balls last year on close defense.
 
The Patriot League Preseason Faceoff Specialist of the Year is junior Zach Hayashi, who won 9-of-10 in the season opener with nine ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen was selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen coached the U.S. U20 Team to a silver medal finish in 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea this past summer.  Towson assistant coach Andy Shilling also served in the same role for the U.S. U20 Team.
 
Nadelen is the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.

Two Towson players were honored in the CAA preseason awards.
 
Mikey Weisshaar, the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year, is the CAA Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight season.  He made the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team along with Elijah Smith, who earns his first-ever preseason all-league honor.
 
TOWSON PREDICTED TO FINISH FIRST IN CAA IN 2026
In the preseason coaches poll, reigning CAA Tournament champion Towson has been predicted to finish first in the CAA in 2026.  Towson was a unanimous first-place selection (coaches could not vote for their own team) with six first-place votes.
