No. 19/20 Towson Men’s Lacrosse Concludes Non-Conference Schedule at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The No. 19/20 Towson University men's lacrosse team will finish non-conference play with a return to Philadelphia, taking on Villanova on Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m.
 
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Jake Starr and Enrique Hervada on the call live from Villanova Stadium.
 
Towson, from the Coastal Athletic Association, earned a 13-9 road victory at then-No. 17 Virginia last Saturday to stand 3-3 overall.  Big East Conference member Villanova is also 3-3, with its last game being a 10-6 loss vs. then-#19/20 Penn.
 
Towson is back in the national rankings after a two-week hiatus, being at No. 19 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.  Villanova is receiving votes in the coaches poll.  This is Towson's sixth game of the year against a team either ranked or receiving votes in the polls.
 
This game revives a former CAA rivalry, with Villanova having competed in the league from 2001-09.  These two last met in the 2009 CAA title game (May 2) in Towson, with Villanova winning 10-9 for the third straight win in the series.  Towson leads the all-time series 16-3.  Towson's last win in the series came on March 24, 2007, a 6-5 victory at Villanova.
 
TOWSON - BACK-TO-BACK CAA CHAMPIONS
Towson enters 2026 as the two-time reigning CAA champion, including two undefeated regular seasons and wins in the CAA Tournament, leading to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
Towson has won 10 CAA championships, all coming since 2003.  Its back-to-back titles are the first for Towson since winning three straight from 2015-17. 
 
Towson's 10 conference tournament titles, since the establishment of men's lacrosse as a sport in the CAA, are the most in the league.  Second is Delaware, which won five before leaving the league in 2025.
 
18 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 18 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes 7-0 undefeated CAA regular season records in each 2024 and 2025.  It is the longest consecutive conference win streak in program history and the longest currently in Division I.

TOWSON -  RANKED IN NATIONAL POLLS
Towson is back in the national rankings, standing No. 19 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after entering the season ranked No. 15 and No. 16 in each poll respectively.  Towson has finished the past two seasons ranked nationally in the top-15.
 
The Tigers defeated then-No. 17 Virginia on March 7 and played two other top-20 teams, Johns Hopkins and Saint Joseph's, in non-conference play.  Other Towson opponents receiving votes in the polls include Loyola, Navy and Villanova.
 
WEISSHAAR - INSIDE LACROSSE, USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN, TEWAARATON WATCH LIST MEMBER
Mikey Weisshaar was selected as a 2026 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List member and an Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American Second Team.  The reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year was the CAA leader in goals and points per game, earning 48 goals and 24 assists for 72 points, averaging 4.5 points per game.

WEISSHAAR APPROACHING TOWSON RECORDS
Mikey Weisshaar is in position to place himself high in the Towson record books.  He currently stands  tied for third in Towson history with 125 goals and third with 186 points.  With 186 points in 52 career games played, he is averaging 3.57 points per game.
 
He currently stands with two of the top-eight single season records in goals in Towson history plus his 72 points in 2025 was seventh in Towson single season history.

ROUSSEL - USA LACROSSE MAGAZINE DI MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Roussel's historic day in the win at Virginia earned him USA Lacrosse Magazine DI Player of the Week.  The senior attack had a hand in nine of Towson's 13 scores, earning career-highs of nine points, five goals and four assists in the victory.

Of the 47-man Towson roster, 18 players reside in the home state of Maryland.  This includes seven players from Baltimore County: James Azbill (Catonsville), Jack Bowman (Towson), Matt Burnam (Nottingham), Roman Dodson (Cockeysville), Ben Ellis (Towson), Will Schoonmaker (Parkton) and Owen Scott (Sparks).

SCOUTING VILLANOVA:
Villanova started the season with a 14-13 overtime victory over then-No. 7 Penn State.
 
Graduate student attack Luke Raymond is the team's leading goal-scorer with 15, having three hat tricks this year.  Leading the first midfield is junior Nick Lucchesi, a local from Villanova, with seven goals and five assists while senior attack Colin Michener has nine goals and three assists.
 
In his second year starting in cage for the Wildcats, sophomore Denis Fargione stands with a 48.2% save rate and 9.81 goals allowed average.  2025 Inside Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention close defenseman Jake Melchionni has tallied 33 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
 
Two juniors have taken the majority of faceoffs for Villanova: Ryan Cunningham is 45.9% with 15 ground balls while George Glomb is 47.1% with eight ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen was selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen coached the U.S. U20 Team to a silver medal finish in 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea this past summer.  Towson assistant coach Andy Shilling also served in the same role for the U.S. U20 Team.
 
Nadelen is the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.

WEISSHAAR, SMITH HONORED IN CAA PRESEASON AWARDS
Two Towson players were honored in the CAA preseason awards.
 
Mikey Weisshaar, the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year, is the CAA Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight season.  He made the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team along with Elijah Smith, who earns his first-ever preseason all-league honor.
 
TOWSON PREDICTED TO FINISH FIRST IN CAA IN 2026
In the preseason coaches poll, reigning CAA Tournament champion Towson has been predicted to finish first in the CAA in 2026.  Towson was a unanimous first-place selection (coaches could not vote for their own team) with six first-place votes.
