Towson Men’s Lacrosse and Loyola Clash in Baltimore Showdown

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's lacrosse team takes the short trek to Cold Spring Lane for the next chapter of the rivalry at Loyola on Tuesday, March 3rd at 6 p.m. at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
 
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Glenn Clark and Chris Gunkel on the call live from the Ridley Athletic Complex.
 
Towson, from the Coastal Athletic Association, took down county rival UMBC 14-10 on Friday to stand at 2-2 overall.  Loyola is also 2-2 to start the year, winning its Patriot League opener 13-11 at Colgate on Saturday.
 
Towson is currently receiving votes in each the USILA Coaches Poll and in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.  Loyola is not ranked in either poll.
 
This is the 69th all-time meeting between Towson and Loyola, with the Greyhounds having a slight lead 36-32.  Towson won in double overtime 13-12 on April 8, 2025 in the last meeting, the third straight overtime game in the series.
 
This is the first of four straight road games for Towson leading into conference play.  These games will be in all different states: Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York.
 
TOWSON - BACK-TO-BACK CAA CHAMPIONS
Towson enters 2026 as the two-time reigning CAA champion, including two undefeated regular seasons and wins in the CAA Tournament, leading to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
Towson has won 10 CAA championships, all coming since 2003.  Its back-to-back titles are the first for Towson since winning three straight from 2015-17. 
 
Towson's 10 conference tournament titles, since the establishment of men's lacrosse as a sport in the CAA, are the most in the league.  Second is Delaware, which won five before leaving the league in 2025.
 
18 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 18 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes 7-0 undefeated CAA regular season records in each 2024 and 2025.  It is the longest consecutive conference win streak in program history and the longest currently in Division I.

TOWSON - RECEIVING VOTES IN NATIONAL POLLS
Towson is receiving votes in each the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after entering the season ranked No. 15 and No. 16 in each poll respectively.  Towson has finished the past two seasons ranked nationally in the top-15.
 
The Tigers are set to play three teams ranked in the top-20 during non-conference play: Johns Hopkins, Saint Joseph's and Virginia.  Other Towson opponents receiving votes in the polls include Navy and Villanova.
 
WEISSHAAR - INSIDE LACROSSE, USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Mikey Weisshaar was selected as a 2026 Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American Second Team, the second straight year the publications have honored him as a preseason All-American.
 
The reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year was the league leader in goals and points per game, earning 48 goals and 24 assists for 72 points, averaging 4.5 points per game.  Starting 16 games at attack, he also tallied 40 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.

WEISSHAAR APPROACHING TOWSON RECORDS
Mikey Weisshaar is in position to place himself high in the Towson record books.  He currently stands  fourth in Towson history with 120 goals and ninth with 176 points.  With 176 points in 50 career games played, he is averaging 3.52 points per game.
 
He currently stands with two of the top-eight single season records in goals in Towson history plus his 72 points in 2025 was seventh in Towson single season history.

SCOUTING LOYOLA:
Loyola will be playing its first game at home on Tuesday but played three of its first four games of the season in the state of Maryland.
 
Senior attack Matthew Minicus was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League and leads the team in assists with nine, adding three goals.  Sophomore attack and Towson native Mason Cook has 18 goals through four games, including eight in the win vs. Colgate.
 
Baltimore native senior Max Watkinson is starting for his second year in goal, having a 52.4% save rate and a 12.48 goals allowed average.  Junior close defenseman Jake Wilson has tallied up 16 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
 
Three different Greyhounds have taken double digit faceoffs so far in 2026.  Junior Carson Hall has taken the majority of draws, winning 42.9% with 18 ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen was selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen coached the U.S. U20 Team to a silver medal finish in 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea this past summer.  Towson assistant coach Andy Shilling also served in the same role for the U.S. U20 Team.
 
Nadelen is the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.

WEISSHAAR, SMITH HONORED IN CAA PRESEASON AWARDS
Two Towson players were honored in the CAA preseason awards.
 
Mikey Weisshaar, the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year, is the CAA Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight season.  He made the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team along with Elijah Smith, who earns his first-ever preseason all-league honor.
 
TOWSON PREDICTED TO FINISH FIRST IN CAA IN 2026
In the preseason coaches poll, reigning CAA Tournament champion Towson has been predicted to finish first in the CAA in 2026.  Towson was a unanimous first-place selection (coaches could not vote for their own team) with six first-place votes.
