CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Towson University men's lacrosse team's challenging non-conference schedule continues with a trip down south against #17 Virginia on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network and ESPN+, with Mark Dixon and Paul Carcaterra on the call live from Klöckner Stadium.
Towson, from the Coastal Athletic Association, fell during the mid-week to Loyola 17-13 on Tuesday to stand at 2-3 overall. That same Tuesday, Virginia, from the Atlantic Coast Conference, defeated High Point at home 14-7 to be at 3-2.
Towson is currently receiving votes in each the USILA Coaches Poll and in the
Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. Virginia is ranked at #17 in each poll. This is Towson's fifth game of the year against a team either ranked or receiving votes in the polls.
Last year, the two teams met in Houston, with Virginia winning 11-6 to win its 15th straight against Towson and lead the series 18-4. Towson's last win in the series came on May 15, 1991, a 14-13 win in Charlottesville in the NCAA Tournament.
This is Towson's first game on a grass surface this season.
TOWSON - BACK-TO-BACK CAA CHAMPIONS
Towson enters 2026 as the two-time reigning CAA champion, including two undefeated regular seasons and wins in the CAA Tournament, leading to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
Towson has won 10 CAA championships, all coming since 2003. Its back-to-back titles are the first for Towson since winning three straight from 2015-17.
Towson's 10 conference tournament titles, since the establishment of men's lacrosse as a sport in the CAA, are the most in the league. Second is Delaware, which won five before leaving the league in 2025.
18 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 18 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season. This includes 7-0 undefeated CAA regular season records in each 2024 and 2025. It is the longest consecutive conference win streak in program history and the longest currently in Division I.

Towson is receiving votes in each the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the
Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after entering the season ranked No. 15 and No. 16 in each poll respectively. Towson has finished the past two seasons ranked nationally in the top-15.
The Tigers are set to play three teams ranked in the top-20 during non-conference play: Johns Hopkins, Saint Joseph's and Virginia. Other Towson opponents receiving votes in the polls include Navy and Villanova.

Mikey Weisshaar was selected as a 2026 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List member and an Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American Second Team. The reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year was the CAA leader in goals and points per game, earning 48 goals and 24 assists for 72 points, averaging 4.5 points per game.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA:
Virginia missed the NCAA Tournament in 2025, the first time the Cavaliers missed the postseason since 2016.
The Millon brothers lead a Virginia offense that averages 15.4 goals per game, with older brother McCabe, a junior attack, having 14 goals and 19 assists while younger brother Brendan, a freshman, was 11 goals and 13 assists.
Virginia's lone member of the 2026 Preseason All-ACC Team is senior close defenseman John Schroter. Graduate transfer from Colgate Aidan Murnane is the team's leader in caused turnovers with eight. Two players, senior Kyle Morris and graduate transfer from Air Force Jake Marek, have split time in goal, leading a defense allowing 12 goals per game.
Freshman Griff Meyer is the primary faceoff man, winning 54.7% with 37 ground balls on 58 won faceoffs.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach
Shawn Nadelen was selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team. Nadelen coached the U.S. U20 Team to a silver medal finish in 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea this past summer. Towson assistant coach
Andy Shilling also served in the same role for the U.S. U20 Team.
Nadelen is the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams. Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.

In the preseason coaches poll, reigning CAA Tournament champion Towson has been predicted to finish first in the CAA in 2026. Towson was a unanimous first-place selection (coaches could not vote for their own team) with six first-place votes.
