TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's lacrosse team earned two weekly awards from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) today as
Alex Roussel is the CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week while
Matt Nilan is the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Roussel earns his first-ever CAA weekly honor, being the third Tiger to have a CAA Offensive Player of the Week award this season along with
Mikey Weisshaar and
Joaquin Villagomez. Nilan picks up his second CAA Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
Towson played two games last week. After its 17-13 defeat at Loyola during the mid-week, Towson rebounded with a big 14-9 road win at No. 17 Virginia, its first victory against a top-20 non-conference opponent since 2021.
Roussel had strong performances in both games, beginning with a hat trick at Loyola. The senior from Toronto, Canada followed with a career-day at Virginia, earning a career-high nine points with a hand in nine of Towson's 13 goals, finishing with five goals, four assists and three ground balls.
Nilan earned a pair of 15-save performances during the week, combining for a 54% save rate in the two games. Playing against a UVA team which entered averaging 15.4 goals a game, the redshirt junior from Bayport, New York saved 15 shots in 24 attempts on goal for a 62.5% save rate in the win.
On Saturday, March 14, Towson will play at Villanova at noon.
