No. 16/17 Towson Men’s Lacrosse Wraps up CAA Regular Season vs. Hofstra

TOWSON, Md. – The No. 16/17 Towson University men's lacrosse team is back at Unitas for its final Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) regular season game vs. Hofstra on Saturday, April 25 at noon.  The Tigers will seek an outright CAA regular season title before being the 1-seed and host in the upcoming CAA Tournament next week.

The game will be broadcast live on Monumental Sports Network (check local listings) and online on FloCollege.  Spiro Morekas and Glenn Smith will have the call live from Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
 
Towson has won seven straight games, taking down Fairfield 12-5 to earn the CAA Tournament 1-seed and be 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the CAA.  Hofstra, currently tied for fourth in the CAA at 2-3 in league play, defeated Hampton 20-5 on Saturday to stand 4-9 overall.
 
Towson has been in the top-20 of the polls the last seven weeks, being at #16 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #17 in the Inside Lacrosse Media poll.  Hofstra is not ranked in either poll.
 
These two teams met in the CAA semifinal round on May 1, 2025 at Unitas with the Tigers winning 11-10 in overtime for Towson's fourth straight win over the Pride.  All-time, Hofstra has a 29-28 lead in the series.  Hofstra's last win in the series came on April 30, 2022, a 15-14 victory at Unitas.

TOWSON - BACK-TO-BACK CAA CHAMPIONS
Towson enters 2026 as the two-time reigning CAA champion, including two undefeated regular seasons and wins in the CAA Tournament, leading to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
Towson has won 10 CAA championships, all coming since 2003.  Its back-to-back titles are the first for Towson since winning three straight from 2015-17. 
 
Towson's 10 conference tournament titles, since the establishment of men's lacrosse as a sport in the CAA, are the most in the league.  Second is Delaware, which won five before leaving the league in 2025.
 
23 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 23 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes 7-0 undefeated CAA regular season records in each 2024 and 2025.  It is the longest consecutive conference win streak in program history and the longest currently in Division I.
 
In addition, Towson has a 23-game winning streak against conference opponents including league tournaments, the eighth-longest streak in DI history.

TOWSON -  RANKED IN NATIONAL POLLS
Towson has been in the national rankings the last seven weeks, standing at #16 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #17 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after entering the season ranked #15 and #16 in each poll respectively.  Towson has finished the past two seasons ranked nationally in the top-15.  Towson is also the lone top-20 ranked team in the CAA.
 
The Tigers defeated now-#12/8 Virginia on March 7.  Other Towson opponents either ranked or receiving votes in the polls include Drexel, Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Saint Joseph's and Villanova.
 
WEISSHAAR TAKEN SECOND OVERALL IN 2026 PLL DRAFT
Mikey Weisshaar was taken second overall in the 2026 PLL Draft on April 14.
 
Weisshaar becomes the fifth Tiger to be drafted into the PLL since the outdoor league was founded in 2019 and the highest Towson player to be taken in the PLL Draft.  He is the fourth Tiger to be drafted in the top-five, with only Towson, Cornell, Duke and Virginia being able to claim that feat.  Weisshaar will join fellow Towson players Ryan Drenner and Zach Goodrich on the Boston Cannons for the upcoming 2026 season.
 
HIGH-POWERED TIGER OFFENSE
Towson, which has the top scoring offense in the CAA with 13.83 goals per game, has three of the top four players in the league in points per game.

WEISSHAAR APPROACHING TOWSON RECORDS
Mikey Weisshaar is in position to place himself high in the Towson record books.  He currently stands second in Towson history with 143 goals and with 215 points.  With 215 points in 58 career games played, he is averaging 3.71 points per game.
 
WEISSHAAR - TEWAARATON TROPHY NOMINEE
Mikey Weisshaar has been selected as a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee for the second straight year, solidifying him as one of the top-25 players in the nation.
 
Weisshaar is the CAA leader in points and assists per game, having tallied up 36 goals and 21 assists for 57 points, also adding 33 ground balls.  The senior attack has earned multiple goals and at least three points in 11 of 12 games played this year.

NILAN EARNS THIRD CAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
Matt Nilan earned his third CAA Defensive Player of the Week award on April 20, matching the most for any CAA player this season.  He earned a 73.6% save rate in the win at Fairfield, saving 14 of 19 shots on goal.
 
SCOUTING HOFSTRA:
Hofstra head coach Seth Tierney will be the head coach of the U.S. Men's Field National Team in the 2027 World Lacrosse Men's Championship.
 
A couple of seniors lead Hofstra in scoring: redshirt senior midfielder Trevor Natalie leads in goals with 28, adding six assists while senior attack Anthony Mollica has the most points with 35 off 19 goals and 16 assists.  In total, Hofstra has six players with double digit goals this year.
 
Redshirt sophomore Shea Kennedy is starting his second year in goal, having a 49.8% save rate and an 11.63 goals allowed average.  Redshirt senior LSM Blake Cooling is second in the CAA in caused turnovers with 27, adding 58 ground balls.
 
Hofstra has used three players on faceoffs, winning 39.1% this year.  Freshman Nico Ghicas has taken the most for the Pride, winning 39.7% with 19 ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen was selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen coached the U.S. U20 Team to a silver medal finish in 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea this past summer.  Towson assistant coach Andy Shilling also served in the same role for the U.S. U20 Team.
 
Nadelen is the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.
 
TWO TIGERS SELECTED AS CAPTAINS
Towson has picked two captains for the 2026 season, each serving as a captain for the first time.

--88 ground balls, 29 caused turnovers in 45 career games.  CB30 badge recipient, presented annually to an outstanding lacrosse player and teammate with a demonstrated desire to help others.

FROM THE HOME STATE....
Of the 47-man Towson roster, 18 players reside in the home state of Maryland.  This includes seven players from Baltimore County: James Azbill (Catonsville), Jack Bowman (Towson), Matt Burnam (Nottingham), Roman Dodson (Cockeysville), Ben Ellis (Towson), Will Schoonmaker (Parkton) and Owen Scott (Sparks).  Towson has representatives from 13 different states and Canada.
 
TOWSON TO HOST 2026 CAA TOURNAMENT
Earning a share of the CAA regular season title on April 18, Towson will host the CAA Tournament at Unitas Stadium for the third consecutive year.
 
The three games will be broadcast on FloCollege.
