No. 16 Towson Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Monmouth for CAA Tournament Semifinal

TOWSON, Md. – The No. 16 Towson University men's lacrosse team begins its title defense on Thursday, April 30th at 4 p.m. at Unitas, taking on Monmouth in the CAA Tournament semifinal round.  Towson is looking for its third straight CAA Tournament title, being the champion in 2024 and 2025, and 11th overall CAA Tournament title.

The game will be broadcast live online on FloCollege.  Spiro Morekas and Glenn Smith will have the call live from Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
 
Towson has won eight straight games, being the CAA regular season champion at 6-0 and 10-3 overall.  The 1-seed Tigers are coming off a 20-3 home win vs. Hofstra on Saturday.  Monmouth earned its first CAA Tournament berth in program history with a 14-11 victory vs. Fairfield on Saturday, getting the 4-seed at 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the CAA.
 
Towson has been in the top-20 of the polls the last eight weeks, being at #16 in each the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media poll.  Monmouth is not ranked in either poll.
 
Towson is 4-0 against the Hawks since Monmouth joined the CAA in the 2023 season, winning 15-10 in the April 4, 2026 regular season matchup.  This is the first time these two will play each other in the CAA Tournament.
 
The winner of the game plays the victor of 2-seed Drexel and 3-seed Stony Brook for the CAA Tournament title on Saturday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. at Unitas.
 
TOWSON - BACK-TO-BACK CAA CHAMPIONS
Towson enters 2026 as the two-time reigning CAA champion, including two undefeated regular seasons and wins in the CAA Tournament, leading to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
Towson has won 10 CAA championships, all coming since 2003.  Its back-to-back titles are the first for Towson since winning three straight from 2015-17. 
 
Towson's 10 conference tournament titles, since the establishment of men's lacrosse as a sport in the CAA, are the most in the league.  Second is Delaware, which won five before leaving the league in 2025.
 
24 STRAIGHT CAA REGULAR SEASON WINS
Towson has been dominant in league play, winning the last 24 regular season CAA games dating back to the 2023 season.  This includes undefeated CAA regular season records in each 2024, 2025 and 2026.  It is the longest consecutive league win streak in program history and the longest currently in Division I.
 
In addition, Towson has a 24-game winning streak against conference opponents including league tournaments, the eighth-longest streak in DI history.

TOWSON -  RANKED IN NATIONAL POLLS
Towson has been in the national rankings the last eight weeks, standing at #16 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #16 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after entering the season ranked #15 and #16 in each poll respectively.  Towson has finished the past two seasons ranked nationally in the top-15.  Towson is also the lone top-20 ranked team in the CAA.
 
The Tigers defeated now-#8 Virginia on March 7.  Other Towson opponents either ranked or receiving votes in the polls include Drexel, Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Saint Joseph's and Villanova.
 
WEISSHAAR TAKEN SECOND OVERALL IN 2026 PLL DRAFT
Mikey Weisshaar was taken second overall in the 2026 PLL Draft on April 14.
 
Weisshaar becomes the fifth Tiger to be drafted into the PLL since the outdoor league was founded in 2019 and the highest Towson player to be taken in the PLL Draft.  He is the fourth Tiger to be drafted in the top-five, with only Towson, Cornell, Duke and Virginia being able to claim that feat.  Weisshaar will join fellow Towson players Ryan Drenner and Zach Goodrich on the Boston Cannons for the upcoming 2026 season.
 
HIGH-POWERED TIGER OFFENSE
Towson, which has the top scoring offense in the CAA with 14.31 goals per game, has the top three players in the league in points per game.

WEISSHAAR - TOWSON'S ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER
On April 25, Mikey Weisshaar became Towson's all-time leader in points, now standing with 222.  He also stands second in Towson history with 149 goals.  With 222 points in 59 career games played, he is averaging 3.76 points per game.
 
He stands with three of the top-eight single season records in goals in Towson history plus his 72 points in 2025 was seventh in Towson single season history.
WEISSHAAR - TEWAARATON TROPHY NOMINEE
Mikey Weisshaar has been selected as a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee for the second straight year, solidifying him as one of the top-25 players in the nation.
 
Weisshaar is the CAA leader in points and assists per game, having tallied up 42 goals and 22 assists for 64 points, also adding 33 ground balls.  The senior attack has earned multiple goals and at least three points in 12 of 13 games played this year.

SCOUTING MONMOUTH:
Monmouth is playing in its first conference tournament since winning the 2021 MAAC Tournament.
 
The Hawks average 11.67 goals per game, led by senior attack Ty Caffarelli, who is second in the CAA at 3.08 goals per game, totaling 37 on the year.  Classmate attack Connor Gorman has 22 goals and seven assists.
 
Leading a defense which allows 10.42 goals per game, junior goalkeeper and Baltimore native Dylan Cadigan has started all 12 games in cage for the Hawks with a 51.5% save rate and 10.02 goals allowed average.  Senior close defenseman Miles Edmiston has 17 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
 
Monmouth has the top faceoff percentage in the CAA, winning 58%.  Sophomore Landon Parker is the primary on the faceoff-X, winning 61.9% with 59 ground balls.

NADELEN NAMED HEAD COACH OF U20 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM
Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen was selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team.  Nadelen coached the U.S. U20 Team to a silver medal finish in 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea this past summer.  Towson assistant coach Andy Shilling also served in the same role for the U.S. U20 Team.
 
Nadelen is the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.
 
TWO TIGERS SELECTED AS CAPTAINS
Towson has picked two captains for the 2026 season, each serving as a captain for the first time.

FROM THE HOME STATE....
Of the 47-man Towson roster, 18 players reside in the home state of Maryland.  This includes seven players from Baltimore County: James Azbill (Catonsville), Jack Bowman (Towson), Matt Burnam (Nottingham), Roman Dodson (Cockeysville), Ben Ellis (Towson), Will Schoonmaker (Parkton) and Owen Scott (Sparks).  Towson has representatives from 13 different states and Canada.
 
TOWSON TO HOST 2026 CAA TOURNAMENT
Earning a share of the CAA regular season title on April 18, Towson will host the CAA Tournament at Unitas Stadium for the third consecutive year.
 
The three games will be broadcast on FloCollege.
