Billy Chiles Named Second Team All-American by NSCAA

TOWSON, Md. ? Senior goalkeeper Billy Chiles (Springbrook H.S./Silver Spring, Md.) of Towson University has been named as a second team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Honored as a first team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick as a senior, Chiles is just the fifth Tiger to be named as a Division I All-American. Sebastian Haensel, ?07 was a third team selection last year. In 2003, Machel Millwood, '03 was named as an honorable mention All-American while Alfonso DeMares, '02 was an honorable mention pick in 2001. In 1998, Richie Moller, '99 earned second team All-American honors.

“Being named an All-American is a well deserved award for Billy,” says Frank Olszewski, the Tigers' coach. “He showed game in and game out that he was one of the best goalkeepers in the country. He has what it takes to succeed at the next level because he seeks to improve on a daily basis.

“Billy is the ultimate competitor with the character traits of a winner and the humility to match,” Olszewski adds.

A first team All-South Atlantic regional selection, Chiles recorded a 1.00 goals against average while stopping 83.3 per cent of the shots he has faced. A two-year starter for the Tigers, he set a school record with nine shutouts as a senior, which ranked second in the conference. He also led the CAA with 110 saves in 21 matches, a 5.24 average.

Chiles finished his career with a 19-7-5 record while earning 15 shutouts and a 0.77 goals against average, the best mark in school history. His 15 career shutouts are tied for sixth on the Tigers' all-time list.

The Tigers ended the season with a 12-7-2 record and advanced to the CAA Championship match.
