Old Dominion Defeats Tigers, 8-0

NORFOLK, Va. - Behind three goals from Paige Clutter Old Dominion defeated the Tigers, 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association action. Towson (5-7, 1-3 CAA) got a defensive save from Brooke Smith in the loss.

"You have to give Old Dominion credit for taking advantage of their opportunities today," said Coach Michelle Webber.

The Lady Monarchs got the scoring started in the ninth minute as Anna Kern scored an unassisted tally. Old Dominion added to its lead in the 11th minute as Loran Hatch scored off a penalty corner. Clutter earned one of the two assists on the goal.

Clutter would add the first of her three scores and Alyschia Conn scored her first goal of the year before the half.

Old Dominion held a 4-0 advantage at the break and a 14-1 advantage in shots. The Lady Monarchs tallied seven penalty corners to the Tigers' two in the first 35 minutes of action. Towson finished with eight first-half saves.

Maarje Van Rijswijk found the back of the net just over two and a half minutes into the second half. Clutter would then complete her "hat trick" with a pair of goals to give Old Dominion a 7-0 advantage.

Kati Nearhouse capped the scoring for Old Dominion with her first career goal in the 68th minute.

Devon Seifert made one save to earn the win in goal for the Lady Monarchs. Whitney Clugston made eight saves in the first 57:37 for the Tigers and took the loss. Jamie Dowling made two saves in her 12:23 of action.

Old Dominion finished with 24 saves to the Tigers' two and 13 penalty corners to the visitors' three.

The Tigers return to action when they return home on Friday, October 8. Towson will host Northeastern at 6 p.m.
