TOWSON, Md. – Towson University field hockey head coach
Katie Gerzabek Salem has announced the signing of Pien van der Horst on Wednesday. Van Der Horst becomes the fourteenth and final player overall and ninth incoming rookie of the 2026 class.
"We are thrilled to welcome Pien van der Horst to the Towson Field Hockey family. Pien is a highly defensive-minded player who brings a calm and composed presence to the backfield." Coach Gerzabek Salem said, "Her ability to outlet under pressure, combined with her exceptional vision and understanding of the game, allows her to control play and create opportunities for her team. She has a tremendous passion for field hockey and a strong desire to fight for the continued growth and success of our program. We are excited to see the impact she will have on our team both on and off the field. We look forward to welcoming her to campus and watching her develop as a Tiger."
Pien van der Horst is a defender and midfielder who hails from Oisterwijk in The Netherlands where she played club hockey for Berkel-Enschot Women. Van der Horst has represented the club at the U18 and senior level with the senior team playing in the fourth highest tier of Dutch senior hockey. Van der Horst won a Subtopklasse championship with the Berkel-Enschot U18's and won league titles at the U12 and U14 level with her previous club MHC HOCO.
"I chose to join Towson because of a strong connection with the coaches, great conversations with players of the team, goals I want to fight for, and a shared vision on field hockey," Van der Horst said.
