#1 Old Dominion Defeats Tigers, 4-0

TOWSON, Md. - Redshirt freshman Christina Siwiec made a season-high 12 saves but it was not enough as the Towson University field hockey team fell to #1 Old Dominion, 4-0 on Friday evening. The Tigers (6-6, 1-3 CAA) got a defensive save from senior Samm McElvaney in the game.

"I think we played defense very well tonight. Christina definitely stepped up and did a really good job in goal," said Coach Michelle Webber. "A game like that helps her confidence."

"We need to figure out our offensive push," added Webber. "We change our starting lineup so it's important to our players that they need to earn a starting spot. We should be executing our plays much faster. Playing a team like this really helps us understand the pace we need to play at."

Despite outshooting the Tigers 11-2 in the first half, Old Dominion (13-0, 4-0 CAA) held just a 1-0 lead at the half. Stephanie Kratzer scored off a penalty corner in the 7th minute.

The Lady Monarchs held an 11-0 advantage on penalty corners in the first 35 minutes while Siwiec made nine first half saves for the Tigers.

Old Dominion added to its lead just 32 seconds into the second half. Christy Longacre tallied a goal off an assist from Kratzer. The Lady Monarchs would score two more times in the game as Kathryn Kirk scored also off an assist from Kratzer. Kratzer would score the final goal of the game.

Old Dominion recorded 10 shots in the second half and finished the game with a 21-2 advantage. The Tigers made 13 saves to the Lady Monarchs' two in the game.

Devon Seifert made two saves to earn the win in goal for Old Dominion. Siwiec's 12 saves are the most by a Tiger since the team had 11 last year against Old Dominion.

Towson returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 9 when the Tigers host William & Mary at noon.
