HAMPDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University used a 2-0 halftime advantage to post a 3-1 victory over the Towson University field hockey team on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (0-2) got a goal from senior Kasie Nurko in the second half of the game.

“We got off to a slow start in the game,” said Coach Michelle Webber. “After we took the timeout with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half, I thought the team played better and they stepped it up in the second half. We had problems finishing on goal when we had opportunities.”

Webber added, “We need focus on finishing at the goal going into our next game.”

The Bobcats (2-0) got on the board, just over two minutes into the game following a penalty corner. Jennalise Taylor scored giving the home team a 1-0 advantage.

Quinnipiac added to its lead at 24:35 on Meghan McCullough's goal and carried that 2-0 lead into the half.

The Bobcats held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half while Bobcats' goalkeeper Nicole Lewis was forced to make the only two saves of the first stanza.

The Tigers made it a 2-1 game at 44:44 as senior Janine Kovach connected with Nurko on the goal. Kovach passed to Nurko on the right side of the goal and she blasted it home.

Just over four minutes later, the Bobcats extended their lead to 3-1 on a goal by Kristin Engelke. That would prove to be the final margin for the home team.

Lewis made six saves to earn the win in goal for Quinnipiac. Sophomore Tashani Dickson made four saves in the loss for the Tigers.

Quinnipiac held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots in the second half and finished with game with a 17-11 advantage. The Bobcats had 12 of the game's 17 penalty corners.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, August 31 when they travel to Virginia for a 3 p.m. game.
