BOX SCORE BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Towson University freshman
Meg Stuart scored her first career goal but it was not enough as the Tigers (1-4) fell to Lehigh (1-5) by a final score of 2-1 in overtime.
Lehigh took an early lead in the contest as
Gabby Tofig scored on a rebound in the second minute of the game.
Towson's Stuart scored the equalizer late in the first-half with help from senior
Kelly Mattingly. The goal was not only Stuart's first career goal but also her first career points.
The Mountain Hawks outshot the Tigers 16-9 in the first half as sophomore
Megan Boyle made six first-half saves.
Lehigh's Tofig was awarded a penalty stroke in the 49
th minute but Towson's Boyle held strong and the shot went wide.
The second-half was scoreless for both team as Lehigh continued to outshoot the Tigers, 9-5. Boyle made six second-half saves for the Tigers.
The Tigers saw two good chances in the overtime period before being awarded a penalty stroke in the 74
th minute. Mattingly took the shot for the Tigers but goalkeeper
Julia Ward recorded the save.
Less than a minute later, the Mountain Hawks' Tofig tipped in a hard pass from
Lindsey Schott to score her second goal of the game and end overtime.
Boyle did not make a save in overtime for the Tigers and ended the game with a total of 12 saves. Ward recorded 11 saves to earn the win.
Towson returns home to host Rider on Sunday, September 21 at 1 pm for the Tigers' home-opener.
