Â
The Tigers dropped their first match of the spring last weekend to Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) foe James Madison, 5-2. Towson (1-1, 0-1 CAA) won the doubles point but it was not enough as the Dukes grabbed five of the six singles points.
Â
The doubles matches were a strong point for the Tigers as two of the three pairings came away with a victory.
Nicole Shakhnazarova and
Lucy Williams defeated the Duke's
Sarah Khan and
Rebecca Harris 6-4.
A.J. Gomer and
Renate van Oorschodt partnered for a 6-3 win over James Madison's
Dylan Owens and
Emily Bradshaw.
Â
Shaknazarova was the only Tiger to capitalize in the singles matches. She fell in the first set 6-1 before posting a strong comeback over James Madison's Kahn, winning the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 6-4.
Â
The Colonials are 1-0 after defeating Morgan State 5-2 on Jan. 18. George Washington won four singles matches and the doubles point in its spring season opener.
Â
The Tigers will look to rout the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region's No. 10-ranked pairing of
Grace Egger and
Teodora Radosavljevic in doubles.
Â
Towson will travel to Salisburg, Md. on Sunday, Feb. 8 to take on University of Maryland Eastern Shore at noon in a neutral site match. The Tigers will then face the host Salisbury University at 3 p.m.
