Select Tigers Prepare For 121st Penn Relays

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's outdoor track and field team will participate in four events at the 121st edition of the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 23. The three-day meet will take place April 23-25 at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Towson will be represented in the 4x100m relay, the 4x400m relay, pole vault and high jump.

"I think all of the members of our 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams have competed at the Penn Relays either with us or in high school," Head Coach Roger Erricker said. "Experience is really good because it can be overwhelming. I think that's going to help us out.

The Tigers' 4x100m relay team is made up of Kaitlyn Davis, Kelsey Fiddes, Zanae Freeland and Brittany Shields. Davis and Freeland are joined by Amanda Famularo and Emily Wenger in the 4x400m relay. Maggie

"With our 4x100m and 4x400m relays running as fast as they did on Saturday, I think that's really going to be good for us," Erricker continued. "The girls will get to run everything and get to be fresh. Zanae and Kaitlyn are only running the two relays instead of four events that they usually run. Amanda and Emily won't be competing in the hurdles which is a tough race for them. It'll be nice to see what we can do fresh."

Davis was a member of the 4x400m relay that timed 3:56.26 to place 58th in the event last year. She also competed in two relays as a freshman at the historic track meet; teaming with Fiddes in the 4x100m (47th-place, 48.29) and Wenger in the 4x400m (44th-place, 3:53.69).

Rampolla will compete for the Tigers in the pole vault. She finished with a 13th-place in the pole vault last year to lead the Tiger participants. She had a result of 11'5.75" to tie two other competitors for 13th.

"The experience that Maggie has from last year is good for her," Erricker said. "She hasn't been jumping as well this year as last so we're hoping to see a little bit of a breakthrough."

Vickers, who will compete in the high jump, will be attending the Penn Relays for the first time in her career.

"Emerald hasn't been to the Penn Relays before," Erricker commented. "It'll be interesting to see how she does and how nervous she'll be in front of the large crowd."

The rest of the Tiger squad will travel to the Delaware Classic on Saturday, April 25 to wrap up the regular season. The two-day Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship meet will take place May 1-2 in Williamsburg, Va.
