Jons Qualifies for the 2025 USATF Championship Trials

EUGENE, Or. - Towson University track & field alum and current student assistant coach Piper Jons is set to compete at the USA Track & Field (USATF) Championship Trials this weekend at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Jons earned a spot in the 200m open after clocking a qualifying time of 22.83 and the 400m open with a qualifying time of 52.31.

The USATF Championship Trials serve as the selection meet ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships held in Tokyo, Japan. The top three finishers for each event – provided they meet the qualifying standards – will be named to the U.S. World Championship Team.

Jons donned Black & Gold for the 2024-25 indoor season after completing her undergraduate studies from Elon University. The Maryland native has secured a spot in the program's top 10 all-time rankings for six events and set school records in the 200m, 400m, 600m, and 4x400m relay. Jons made history at the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Indoor Championships, breaking both the Towson and CAA records in the 200m and 400m and was recognized as the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet. In January, she was recognized as the CAA Track Athlete of the Week after setting two Towson records and earning national rankings in three events. In April, Jons was recognized as the 2025 CAA Track Athlete of the Year for the indoor season.
