TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team opens dual match action at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers and the Mount will compete in singles and doubles play beginning at 3 p.m. at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts.
This will be the 26
th meeting between Towson and Mount St. Mary's. Towson holds a 16-9 advantage in the series and has won six-straight dual matches.
Towson had a trio of players compete at the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional Championships in Richmond, Virginia last weekend.
Nicole Shakhnazarova competed in main draw singles at the championship event, winning her first match against Penn State's Jacqueline Zuhse in a thrilling three-set match. She then advanced to face William & Mary's Marie Faure, a No. 5-8 ranked player in the tournament, falling in straight sets.

A.J. Gomer and
Renate van Oorschodt competed in main draw doubles, dropping a first round decision to a pair from Old Dominion. Gomer and van Oorschodt competed in extra doubles play against a duo from Virginia Tech, a nationally ranked program. Gomer and van Oorschodt was one point away from a victory in the tiebreaker before ultimately falling 8-6.
Last season, Towson earned a clean sweep over Mount St. Mary's. The Tigers won all three doubles matchups and earned straight set wins for all six singles matchups.
