TOWSON, Md. – Towson University junior
Brady Policelli was selected in the 13
th round by the Detroit Tigers in the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Saturday afternoon. He was drafted as a catcher.
Policelli becomes the first Tiger to be drafted since Charlie Cononie was taken by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011. Policelli becomes the highest draft pick for the Tigers since Chris Russ was taken in the 3
rd round by the Texas Rangers in 2000.
Policelli finished his junior year by hitting a CAA-best .375 with 14 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 45 RBIs. He also drew 45 walks and was 22-for-25 in stolen bases.
He made the transition to shortstop after the 10
th game of the season and became just the third Tiger to earn First-Team All-CAA honors at shortstop.
Over his three-year career, Policelli hit .302 with 32 doubles, eight triples, 21 home runs and 97 RBIs. He also scored 105 runs and drew 89 walks.
