WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson University women's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 decision to George Washington University at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center on Friday afternoon.
Towson won three singles matches but it was not enough to defeat the Colonials who used the opening doubles point to edge the Tigers.
How it Happened
- George Washington won the match's opening doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. Towson's A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt won the No. 1 flight, 7-5 over Maria Siopacha and Melis Bayraktaroglu. The Colonials won the No. 2 flight Taylor Nederlander and Marie-Louise Decamps earned a 7-5 win over Lucy Williams and Yevgeniya Shusterman. At the third doubles flight, Allison Hansen and Victoria Kogan defeated Sophie Lesage and Lucy Gloninger, 6-3.
- At the top singles flight, Nicole Shakhnazarova was edged 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) by Maria Siopacha.
- A.J. Gomer earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Marie-Louise Decamps at the No. 2 singles flight.
- Melis Bayraktaroglu earned a very close win over Lucy Williams, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (11-9) at the third singles flight.
- At No. 4 singles, Barbora Vasilkova defeated Taylor Nederlander 6-1, 7-5.
- Kamilla Beisenova bested Yevgeniya Shusterman 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles spot.
- In the final singles flight, Renate van Oorschodt earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Allison Hansen.
