ELON, N.C. -Â Despite a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles and holding three match points at No. 3 doubles, the Towson University women's tennis team had its season come to an end on Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 41 William & Mary in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Tennis Championship at Burlington Tennis Center.
The Tigers (12-12) finish the season with 12 wins, their second-most in the last seven years.
"We lost this match 4-0, but that doesn't indicate how competitive it was," said head coach
Jamie Peterson. "We had three match points at No. 3 doubles and No. 1 played great. It wasn't the result we were looking for, but I think we showed the CAA that if we can continue to improve, we will be a force to be reckoned with."

Barbora Vasilkova and junior
Lucy Gloninger held a 40-15 advantage before Charlotte Madson and Clara Tanielian rallied for a 7-5 victory to a 1-0 lead in the match.
"Winning the doubles point would have energized the team and who knows from there," added Peterson.
Needing just three singles points to claim victory, the Tribe posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 and a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 to take a 3-0 lead.
With Williams leading her match at No. 3 singles after winning the first set 6-1, William & Mary clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1, earning the decisive fourth point.
Friday marked the final match in the careers of Williams, Vasilkova,
Nicole Shakhnazarova,
Renate van Oorschodt and
A.J. Gomer.
"Our five seniors left everything out on the court and it was said to see them play their last match at Towson, but they all have bright futures ahead of them," said Peterson.
