RICHMOND, Va. - For the third time in her career, Towson University women's tennis senior
Nicole Shakhnazarova received All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors on Wednesday as she was named to the second team in singles.
Shakhnazarova, who was also named to the All-CAA Second Team in 2015 and 2016, is the only Tiger in program history to earn multiple end of the year accolades.
This season, Shakhnazarova led Towson with 13 wins as the team won a CAA championship match for the first time since 2007 with a 4-1 win over Hofstra in the first round. She appeared in 109 career matches, totaling a 67-42 record for a .615 winning percentage. Her 67 wins are tied for the third-most in program history with Nisha Shah.
As a team, Towson has had at least one player earn All-CAA honors in each of the last four seasons. In addition to Shakhnazarova, senior
Lucy Williams was named to the second team in 2016 while seniors
A.J. Gomer and
Renate van Oorschodt were named to the second team in doubles in 2017.
William & Mary sophomore Rosie Cheng was selected as the 2018 CAA Player of the Year while James Madison freshman Liz Norman was named CAA Rookie of the Year and William & Mary's Tyler Thomson was chosen as the CAA Coach of the Year.
The Tigers (12-12) finished the season with 12 wins, their second-most in the last seven years.. The Tigers advanced to the CAA quarterfinals for a sixth-straight year.
