TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's swimming and diving teams hosts in-state rival UMBC in Burdick Hall on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The meet is scheduled to begin with the diving competition at 10 a.m. then swimming starts at 1 p.m.
Swimming Spotlight
Before each meet, the swimming and diving program will introduce us to someone in the senior class who will share highlights and their expectations of the season. This meet we introduce you to senior
Matt Kenney. The Law and American Civilization major is from Silver Spring, Maryland and will be competing in the freestyle and individual medley this season.
The energy that each swimmer brings is different and unique to the team and Kenney is happy he can add to that.
"Our team has been really excited so far and our swimmers are already going really fast in dual meets," said Kenney. "I hope to contribute to the excitement just by having good energy and encouraging my teammates."
"I am definitely looking forward to seeing this team come together and grow not just as individuals, but also as a group. We have a large group of young swimmers and divers that have potential to do some great things," said Whitman.
Even though the Tigers compete against UMBC this weekend, Kenney is really looking forward to the winter break training trip.
"I am really looking forward to our training trip over winter break," said Kenney. "It is really exciting because this will be this first training trip we have gone on in the four years I have been here and I'm excited to bond more with my teammates.
After the Tigers compete against UMBC tomorrow, they will travel to New Jersey to compete in the mid-season meet at the Bucknell Invitational and it's the one meet everyone is anticipating.
"I am most looking forward to our mid-season meet at Bucknell and our Conference championship meet," said Kenney. "These two meets are always a ton of fun because our team always goes really fast and has a lot of energy."
"We are all feeling really confident in the training we have done so far so we all expect to perform well."
As the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is approaching, Kenney is hoping to final in all three of his events and have best times.
Quick Fun Fact about Matt: Something interesting about
Matt Kenney is that he is a Vegan on a whole foods plant based diet. A lot of times people think that it would be difficult to be an athlete while practicing this lifestyle but he thinks this could not be further from the truth. The night before meets he likes to have a great big meal made of beans, rice, tofu, and plenty of veggies to fuel on to prepare him for when he competes.
