DeLAND, Fla. - Friday the Towson University tennis team started action in the Hatters Invitational hosted by Stetson.

The Tigers competed in doubles and singles against Georgia Southern in the first part of the round robin format.

How it Happened

• In singles Elessa Jacobs earned a solo win for the Tigers, an 8-4 victory. She paired with Jessica Assenmacher for doubles action, the duo fell 6-1.
• Pheobe Collins fell in two close sets in singles, both 6-4 final scores. 
• Collins and Alexa Martinez fell in doubles in a close tiebreaker, final score 7-6.
• Martinez also competed in singles, falling to her Georgia Southern opponent. 
• Sarah Pospischill and Assenmacher took the court in singles as well and did not see wins.
• Pospischill and Lawson teamed up for doubles, losing 6-2.

"We played very well at times but not consistently enough to win," said head coach Jamie Peterson. "We had plenty of opportunities to win more games but couldn't convert the important moments and the result showed. The bright spot today was Elessa's singles win and a close tiebreak loss in doubles from Phoebe and Alexa."

Action continues tomorrow for the Tigers in the Hatters Invitational.
