Towson Aiming To Bounce Back Against Buffalo

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson University men's basketball team continues competition in the Gildan Charleston Classic by facing the University of Buffalo.
 
Towson dropped a 73-51 decision to 18th-ranked Xavier Thursday night while Buffalo lost to UConn, 79-68.

  • Buffalo is the second opponent from the Mid-American Conference (MAC), Towson will oppose this season. The Tigers dropped an overtime decision to Kent State on Nov. 11.
  • Buffalo is the fourth consecutive postseason opponent from 2019 that the Tigers will battle: Kent State (CIT), Florida (NCAA), Xavier (NIT) and Buffalo (NCAA).
  • Towson's Nick Timberlake saw his first action since last Dec. 8 against Morgan State. He had three rebounds in 16 minutes against Xavier.
  • Nakye Sanders has 17 rebounds in Towson's last two games combined.
  • Dennis Tunstall has 83 career blocks in 98 games.

  • Brian Fobbs and Allen Betrand combined for 26 points against Xavier.
  • Betrand was 2-for-3 from 3-point distance.
  • Betrand leads Towson with eight 3-pointers.
  • Juwan Gray's baseline dunk was No. 4 on Thursday's SportsCenter Top 10.
  • Sanders had a season best 11 rebounds against Xavier.
  • Fobbs (13.6 points per game), Betrand (12.6) and Gray (10.0) are Towson's leading scorers.
  • Jakigh Dottin, who hit a halfcourt buzzer beater at intermission against Xavier, has 16 assists and two turnovers.
  • Jason Gibson and Fobbs are a combined 26-for-31 from the free throw line (83.8 percent).
  • Tunstall leads Towson with eight steals.
 
A Look At Buffalo
  • The Bulls struggled from the floor, shooting just over 36% from the field and just under 21% from three-point range in their loss to the Huskies.
  • Three Bulls finished in double figures led by 15 points each from senior Antwain Johnson and sophomore Josh Mballa
  • For Mballa it was a career high in scoring as he was 7-of-9 from the floor before fouling out.
  • Graves added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. 
  • Davonta Jordan finished the night with eight points, five rebounds, and a team-high five assists.
  • Redshirt freshman LaQuill Hardnett had his best game of his young career with four points and eight rebounds off the bench. 
  • The Bulls have attempted 116 3-pointers.
  • Graves, Johnson, Ronaldo Segu and Devonta Jordan all have made nine 3-pointers.
  • Graves and Mballa have combined for 55 of Buffalo's 166 total rebounds.
  • Graves is Buffalo's leading scorer at 16 points per contest.
  • The two-time reignning MAC champions advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season where it lost to Texas Tech.
