RICHMOND, Va. – Announced this morning by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) three members of the Towson University field hockey team have received postseason All-Conference accolades.
Junior
Beira Ho was named to the All-CAA Second Team, freshman
Tess Okkerse was named to the All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Rookie Team while
Georgia Beachley was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.
This is the first time since 2015 that the Tigers have had two players on the CAA Second Team and the first time since 2008 to have three different players receive CAA postseason awards.
Ho collects her second postseason award since being named to the All-Rookie Team in 2017. This year she scored once and assisted on four. The two-time team captain junior scored against LaSalle helping Towson to its first win of 2019. Her work at defensive center midfield helped the Tigers generate attacking situations all season.
Freshman goalkeeper Okkerse finished her first collegiate season with 116 saves to lead the CAA in total saves. The Gouda, Netherlands native finished second in the league in saves per game with an average of 6.11 and recorded one shutout this season. She had a career-best 13 saves against American and repeated against No. 11 Delaware. She is the first player in program history to be on both the Second Team and All-Rookie Team in postseason awards.
Beachley led the Tigers in goals with eight and recorded three assists. She had two game-winning goals, one against Georgetown and one against Temple. She was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 15 after taking the victory against the Hoyas on a penalty stroke. The Bel Air, Maryland native finished with a shot percentage of .917. Beachley's eight goals are tied for sixth in the CAA on goals scored, her two game-winners are in the top-10 of conference stats as well.
Delaware's Femke Strien received Player of the Year honors, William & Mary's Christie Van de Kamp was named Defensive Player of the Year and Northeastern's Lauren Rowe was named Rookie of the Year. The CAA Coach of the Year is William & Mary's Tess Ellis.
