Towson Excited For CAA Championships

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's golf team is excited to compete in the 2019 CAA Women's Golf Championship. The event is set to begin on Friday April 11, at St. James Plantation in Southport, North Carolina for the second straight year.
 
The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the winning team earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
 
Competing this weekend for the Tigers will be senior Alix Lowe, junior Erica Han, sophomore Sarah Perine, freshman Jordan Cornelius and freshman Julia Calomiris.
 
"It is definitely bittersweet that this is my last championship," Lowe said. "I am excited to start the next chapter of my life but I am definitely going to miss competing as a team and traveling together. We are definitely going to make this the most eventful championship out of my four years. I am very excited."
 
Towson will be one of eight CAA squads that will participate in the women's championship on the par 72, 6,066-yard Reserve Club. Five teams have won the CAA women's golf championship title: James Madison, Georgia State, UNCW, College of Charleston and Delaware.
 
The Tigers finished third at last year's championship tournament. It was the best in program history.
 
Lowe (tied for 10th, 232 +16), Han (16th, 235 +19) and Perine (21st, 240 +24) competed at last year's CAA championship event and will look to utilize their experiences to help Towson finish with a flourish.
 
Towson enters the championship ranked sixth among CAA schools with a 77.59 scoring average. The Tigers enter the tournament ranked 197th in the latest Division I GolfStat rankings.
 
Lowe leads Towson with a 77.93 scoring average over 15 rounds. In the Tigers most recent outing, Lowe had an even par final round of 72 in the John Kirk Collegiate Tournament hosted by Georgia State on April 2. That tied her best round of the year. Lowe was 10th last year and 19th as a sophomore at the CAA Championships.
 
Calomiris has been solid this season with a scoring averaging of 78.04 over 23 rounds. She was 11th at the Towson Invitational and tied for 18th at the Anuenue Classic in Hawai'i where Towson finished sixth as a team. Her best round was a 74 achieved three times, including twice in the spring.
 
Perine, who has a 78.13 scoring average, has been Towson's highest individual finisher in three tournaments. She was tied for eighth at the Towson Invitational. Her best round of the season was a 73 at the Blue Hen Invitational in October. Han has a 78.57 scoring average in 23 rounds. Han and Perine were the Tigers top individuals at the Starmount Fall Classic.
 
Cornelius tied Lowe's program record for lowest round with a 68 at the Anuenue Classic in Hawai'i on March 23. She finished the tournament tied for 10th overall to lead Towson. She also tied for eighth at the Towson Invitational. She has a 78.71 scoring average over 14 rounds.
  
As a team, Towson shot a season low 295 in the final round of the Kiawah Invitational on Feb. 26. The Tigers also shot a 302 in the third round of the John Kirk Collegiate event on April 2. Towson finished second at the Towson Invitational to begin its season.
 
Towson tees off from the first hole at 9:20 a.m. with Elon and James Madison. Saturday's action also begins at 8:30 a.m. at the first tee. Sunday teams will begin play at 8 a.m. with split tees. The tournament concludes Sunday afternoon with the awards ceremony.
 
Pairings and tee times will be announced Thursday evening on CAA Championship Central. In addition, Live Scoring will be available all three days.
