SOUTHPOINT, N.C. – Towson University freshman
Jordan Cornelius made her first career round in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships one to remember.
Playing in tough rainy and windy conditions, Cornelius was unflappable in leading the Tigers with a one-over 73. That strong performance helped place Cornelius in a three-way tie for the individual lead after the first round.

"I was hitting the ball really solid for past few weeks which gave me a lot of confidence going into this tournament. I made a game plan and stuck with it throughout the round. The conditions were tough out there and I knew par was my friend."
How It Happened
- Towson is fourth overall after shooting 316 (+28).
- The Tigers are seven strokes behind overall leader UNCW, which shot a 309 (+21).
- Towson is also three strokes from second place as Charleston (314 +26) and Delaware (315 +27) round out the top four schools.
- Cornelius shined on the back nine, shooting a one-under 35.
- She finished with a flourish with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes.
- Cornelius also had a birdie on the seventh hole.
- Sarah Perine is tied for 11th overall after carding a seven-over 79.
- Perine birdied the fourth, seventh and eighth holes.
- Even though Julia Calomiris and Erica Han each shot an 82 (+10), they are tied for 19th overall.
- Han had a birdie on the 11th hole.
- The highlight of Calomiris' round was her eagle on the par-4, 360-yard fifth hole.
- Calomiris was the only student-athlete competing, who eagled during the first round.
- Alix Lowe finished with a 12-over 84.
