Tennis Set to Play Three Matches This Weekend

TOWSON, Md. - After one week off the Towson University women's tennis team will travel to Princeton to face the Tigers and Villanova before returning home to host Coppin State.

Saturday Towson will face Princeton on its home court. Sunday morning the Tigers take on the Wildcats also at Princeton, before returning to Maryland. Sunday evening Towson will host Coppin State at Coppermine Racquet & Fitness in Pikesville.

Scouting the Tigers
Towson is coming off a tough loss to Fairleigh Dickinson last weekend on Navy's court. The Tigers hold a 1-5 record currently and have seen bright spots with wins from Sarah Pospischill, Phoebe Collins and Themis Haliou. Sunday's game against Coppin State will be the Tigers' first home match since Jan. 17.

Scouting Princeton
The Princeton Tigers enter the weekend with a 5-1 record, coming off a 4-0 win over Pepperdine last weekend. Princeton's only loss this season is to N.C. State, on Feb. 7, a 4-0 shutout. The Tigers have solid wins over Washington, USC and Northewestern.

Scouting Villanova
Before the Wildcats face the Tigers, Villanova will play St. John's on Friday night. Villanova has a 2-1 record and is coming off a 6-1 win over Lehigh last Saturday. Sunday will be the fourth straight season holding a meeting between Towson and Villanova. The Tigers have won the last three matchups including a 4-3 win last season.

Scouting Coppin State
The Eagles are 0-4 to start the year and most recently fell to Lafayette on the road, 4-0. Coppin State has played Maryland already this season, a common opponent between these local teams. Towson has won the last 10 meetings against Coppin State.

Tigers In The Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
