TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team begins its final regular season road trip with its annual journey north over the traffic-clogged Verrazzano-Narrows or Goethals Bridge and across the congested, horn-honking Long Island Expressway to meet Hofstra in a key Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest.
 
Starting Five
  • Three of the last four games between Towson and Hofstra in Long Island have been decided by six points or fewer.
  • Last season's game on Long Island was won in double overtime by Hofstra, 91-82.
  • Towson is 10-24 all-time at Hofstra.
  • Towson can clinch no worse than a top five CAA seeding with a win in one of its last two games.
  • The Tigers are 5-2 in CAA road games, winning five of their last six conference contests away from SECU Arena. Towson won six CAA road games in 2014.
  • Hofstra has won four straight home CAA games.
 
Towson Update
  • Towson has improved by 8.5 games from a season ago, with Pat Skerry's team tied for the 10th-best improvement in the country.
  • The Tigers are 20th in the NCAA in free-throw percentage (77.0).
  • Towson is also among the top 50 in total rebounds (1,043, 39th) and rebounding margin (+5.1, 45th).
  • Allen Betrand is second in the CAA and 26th nationally in free-throw percentage (88.4).
  • The Tigers had five players reach double figures in their win over Elon on Saturday led by Brian Fobbs and Jason Gibson with 19 points each. It was the second time this season the Tigers had five players reach double digits in scoring.
  • Fobbs, who leads Towson in scoring at 15.9 points per game, has scored in double figures in 25 games this season.
  • Fobbs is seventh in the CAA in free-throw percentage (83.9).
  • Averaging 14.2 points per contest, Betrand has tallied double figures 22 times this season.
  • Nakye Sanders has grabbed at least six rebounds in a game 20 times this year.
  • Gibson had a career best five rebounds in the win over Elon.
  • Dennis Tunstall had career best four assists in the victory over Elon.
  • Tunstall has 117 career blocked shots.
  • Last season in a double overtime setback at Hofstra, Sanders and Tunstall each finished with a double-double.
 
A Look At Hofstra
  • Hofstra will look to capture its second straight CAA regular season title.
  • That will occur with its next victory either tonight against the Tigers or Saturday against James Madison.
  • Senior Desure Buie was named the CAA Player of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday. He earned the honor on November 25, December 31, and February 3. 
  • Last week in road wins over Drexel and Delaware, Buie averaged 26.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game in the two wins.
  • Buie and Eli Pemberton were outstanding with 27 and 25 points, respectively in the win over Delaware.
  • Buie added nine assists and six rebounds, while Pemberton posted nine rebounds in the contest.
  • Buie leads the team in scoring (18.7), assists (166), and steals (62) this year.
  • Pemberton is second on the squad in scoring with 16.7 per contest.
  • Sophomore Isaac Kante is tops on the team in rebounding (7.5), while ranking fourth in scoring (11.4).
  • Junior Tareq Coburn is fifth in scoring (10.6) and second in rebounding (5.8).

Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
 
2020 Hercules Tires Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament Ticket Information
  • The four-day tournament to determine the CAA champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament will be held from Saturday, March 7 through Tuesday, March 10 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
