PHILADELPHIA – The Towson University men's basketball team concludes its week on the road by making its annual visit to Drexel in another key Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) battle in the city of Brotherly Love.
The Tigers are currently fifth in the CAA with six games remaining, a half-game ahead of Drexel. Towson is looking to win both games in the season series for the fourth time in the last five years.
This will be Drexel's annual autism awareness game. The Tigers will wear their blue uniforms in the contest.
Starting Five
- Towson has won 12 of the last 15 meetings between the two schools.
- The Tigers have won the last two games over Drexel by an average of 15.5 points.
- Twenty-seven of the meetings between Towson & Drexel have been decided by six points or less.
- Drexel has turned the Daskalakis Athletic Center into a house of horrors for opponents, by winning four straight home games. The last three victories at home have been by double digits.
- Two of the last seven games against Drexel have been decided in overtime.
Towson Update
- The Tigers dropped an 84-78 decision to Delaware on Thursday despite making a season best 12 3-pointers.
- Allen Betrand continued his second-half scoring binge by tallying 19 of his career best tying 23 points after intermission.
- Brian Fobbs scored 19 points against Delaware to reach double digits for the 10th consecutive game.
- Fobbs has averaged 24.3 points in three career games against Drexel.
- Betrand and Fobbs combined for 51 points in Towson's 89-73 win over the Dragons on Jan. 9.
- Nicolas Timberlake scored all 11 of his points in the second half against the Blue Hens.
- Jason Gibson has made seven 3-pointers over Towson's last two games.
- The Tigers lead the CAA in field goal percentage defense (40.7) and are second in scoring defense (67.2) and rebounding margin (+4.0).
- Betrand is third in the CAA in free-throw percentage (85.7), seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (40.9) and 11th in scoring (14.2).
- Sanders is sixth in the CAA in offensive rebounds (2.2) and seventh in rebounding (6.5).
- Fobbs is eighth in the CAA in free throw percentage (82.7) and eighth in scoring (16.2).
- Dennis Tunstall is third in the CAA in blocked shots (1.1), tied for fourth in offensive rebounding (2.3) and 13th in rebounding (5.8).
- Tunstall has 32 career games in which he's blocked at least two or more shots.
- Jakigh Dottin is 13th in assists per game (2.3).
- Towson has scored exactly 1,700 points this season.
A Look At Drexel
- Five players scored in double figures as Drexel remained hot at home with a 78-67 victory over James Madison on Thursday.
- Thursday's wire-to-wire win was the fifth straight at home for Drexel, who hit 10 wins at the DAC for the first time since 2011-12.
- James Butler scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with 14 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals, locking up his 16th double-double of the season.
- Butler leads the Dragons in scoring, rebounding, blocks and steals.
- Zach Walton, Sam Green and Camren Wynter all turned in 11 points, and T.J. Bickerstaff added 10 points off the bench.
- As a team, the Dragons sank 11 treys on 29 attempts, shooting .379 from beyond the arc. Drexel finished a game with double-digit three-pointers for the sixth time this season.
- The Dragons lead the CAA in 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.1) and assists (14.5).
- Butler leads the CAA in rebounding (12.0), offensive rebounds (4.0) and defensive rebounds (8.0).
- Wynter is second in the CAA in assists (5.1) and fifth in steals (1.6).
- Drexel is outscoring opponents by 10 points in six home conference games this season.
- The Dragons are making over nine 3-pointers per game at home.
Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
