ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Towson women's tennis completed the first day of Navy's Blue and Gold Invitational on Friday evening.
Themis Haliou will advance onto the quarterfinal round in the A flight after a win on day one.
Singles
Flight A
Themis Haliou defeated Paige La of George Mason, 6-3, 3-1 (ret.). She will go on to face the No. 1-seeded Marta Perez Mur of Maryland in the quarterfinal on Saturday.
Amelia Lawson fell to George Mason's Grace Hashiguchi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Flight B
Olivia Rothfeld and Sarah Pospischill both fell in close matches to Seton Hall's Hiba El Khalifi and Connecticut's Aleksandra Karamyshev, respectively.
Jessica Assenmacher dropped her opening match to Lauren Gish of UNCW, 6-3, 6-2.
Flight C
Lea Kosanovic dropped a close match to Hili Kronson of Seton Hall along with Sissi Axelsson who fell to Isabel Petri-Bere of Connecticut.
Elessa Jacobs could not get the win over Navy's Stella Ribaudo, as she fell 6-2, 6-2.
Flight D
Schuyler Tose dropped her first match of the tournament to George Washington's Lindsay Thompson, 6-1, 6-0.
Brianna Gibbs of George Mason bested Nadeen Shrebati, 6-1, 6-2.
UNCW's Maddy Muller-Hughes came out on top against Erin Gray, 6-2, 6-1.
Doubles
Flight A
Assenmacher/Axelsson got the win over Navy's Crowell/Nannery, 8-6. They then fell to the No. 1-seeded duo of Cadar/Brumfield from Maryland, 8-1.
Rothfeld/Haliou fell in their first match as a pair to Belaya/Gish of UNCW, 8-5.
The pair of Lawson/Kosanovic dropped their match to George Washington's Bodewes/Bell, 8-5.
Flight B
The duo of Antonia Lawson/Pospischill fell to Ramirez/Thompson of George Washington, 8-3.
Accola/Farid of Navy edged Tose/Shrebati, 8-1.
Jacobs/Gray were also bested by Daniels/Robbins of UNCW, 8-3.
