ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Three singles players and one doubles team will compete in consolation finals matches as the second day of Navy Blue and Gold Invitational comes to a close.
Sarah Pospischill, Lea Kosanovic and Schuyler Tose will all play in their respective flight's back draw final tomorrow. The pair of Amelia Lawson/Kosanovic will also have a chance at the consolation championship.
Singles
Flight A
Themis Haliou fell to the No. 1-seeded Marta Perez Mur of Maryland in the quarterfinal, 6-1, 6-1.
Amelia Lawson dropped a consolation match to Seton Hall's Arina Gumerova, 1-6, 7-6 (4) [10-3].
Flight B
Olivia Rothfeld got the win over Stela Joksimovic of UNCW in consolation play, 7-6 (4), 6-1. She then dropped the semifinal match to Navy's Meghana Komarraju, 6-4, 6-2.
Jessica Assenmacher fell to Aina Plana Ventosa of Seton Hall in the back draw, 6-2, 6-1.
Sarah Pospischill defeated both George Washington's Alejandra Ramirez, 7-5, 6-1, and Aina Plana Ventosa 1-6, 6-4 [11-9]. She will play in the consolation final tomorrow against Meghana Komarraju.
Flight C
Lea Kosanovic received a bye before defeating Lara McNaughten (George Washington), 6-4, 6-3, to move onto the finals of the back draw. She will face George Mason's Savanna Crowell tomorrow.
Lara McNaughten bested Elessa Jacobs, 6-4, 6-3.
Sissi Axelsson also received a bye but was then edged by Savanna Crowell, 1-6, 6-3 [10-5].
Flight D
Schuyler Tose advanced over Selen Takunyaci of Connecticut (ret.) in the first round of consolation. She then got a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily O'Donovan of Seton Hall and will see Corinne Farid (Navy) in the finals tomorrow.
Nadeen Shrebati could not get the win over Corinne Farid, 6-4, 6-2.
Erin Gray withdrew against Francesca Trella of George Mason.
Doubles
Flight A
Rothfeld/Haliou fell in their consolation match to Corpuz/Komarraju (Navy), 8-3.
In the back draw, the pair of Lawson/Kosanovic got a win over Seton Hall's Plana Ventosa/El Khalifi, 8-7 (6). They will go onto play in the consolation final tomorrow against Petri-Bere/Karamyshev of Connecticut.
Flight B
The duo of Antonia Lawson/Pospischill fell to Seton Hall's Moen/Kronson in consolation, 8-2.
Tose/Shrebati defeated teammates Jacobs/Gray (ret.). They will face O'Donovan/Kempinski (Seton Hall) for a spot in the finals of the back draw.
