RICHMOND, Va. — Following a promising fall for the Towson University field hockey team, Lena Vandam and Kasey Bubel have received Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Postseason honors. The conference announced the year-end awards Thursday morning.
Lena Vandam
One of five Tigers to start all 17 games of the fall, Vandam played every second of the season in goal. She ended the regular season with a conference-best 163 saves against a whopping 337 shots. Hailing from Antwerp, Belgium the netminder recorded 10 double-figure save contests this fall including a season-high 26 stops on 52 shots against Virginia (9/5).
Vandam also led the league with 9.59 saves per game to rank second in the NCAA. She also boasts a .782 save percentage to sit at 12th in the country. The graduate student finished nine contests with over a .800 save percentage.
The goalkeeper earned first team honors for the second consecutive season after also earning the award in the spring of 2021.
Kasey Bubel
Bubel was named to the All-CAA second team after another strong season anchoring the Towson backline. The two-year senior captain totaled an impressive 13 defensive saves to lead both the league and the nation in the statistic. She collected defensive stops in nine of 17 contests, including three double-digit efforts. Bubel earned a season-high three defensive saves against Wagner (9/24).
The Leesport, Pennsylvania native has also led the defensive penalty corner unit to success, stopping 150 attempts from the circle. She was also one of five Tigers to start every game of the season. This is her second consecutive season earning a spot on the All-CAA second team.
