GREENVILLE, S.C. –
Justin Griffith, Brad Riley and
Jeremy Summerson are carded four-over rounds of 75 during the first round of the Furman Invitational at the Furman University Golf Club on Friday.
Griffith (36-39) began the day with back-to-back birdies and shot one-over on the front nine. Riley (36-39) also shot one-over on the front, which included birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. Summerson (38-37) had back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes.
Jackson Courtney, who was named Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Week earlier this week following a sixth place performance at the Carpetbagger Classic, was two-over at the turn but finished with a round of 80 (37-43).
Branden Nguyen, making his collegiate debut, shot 84 (39-45). His round was highlighted by a birdie on No. 2.
The 51
st Furman Invitational features 17 teams from nine states. The Tigers are in 15
th place after its top four players shot a combined 305 (+21). Furman leads the field at one-under par (283).
The Towson players will tee off during the 8 o'clock hour for Saturday's second round. The three-day tournament concludes Sunday.
